Bare always have a lot of jobs on their books but that is countered by the fact that they have an awful lot of shoppers as well. I am one point off self assingment grade so I think I might do one more job just to be able to choose at my own whim.

I can get onto RE ok, not that there is a lot on offer for my area:rolleyes:.
However, Gap are another matter....I am trying to select assignments & it keeps giving me a message saying that I have gone over my maximum daily quota of 15 assingments?! I haven't been able to book any assingments for 2 days because of this, what daily quota & how does it apply when I haven't booked any assingments today, let alone 15? I have emailed them but no response so far & I am missing out on assignments:rolleyes::mad:
    Cheers;)

I can remember when I first started with them and they gave me a quota of a max of 5 a month and then it slowly when up to a max of 10 and then a max of 15 a month. Then I think it went up to a max of 25 a month. Now I don't think that I have a quota on my account with reguards to jobs.

    Hope this helps.

Hi all - can I get a bit of mystery-shopping-virgin advice please?

Got my first visit on Friday via Gap. I'll be going with hubby and baby and need to order the buffet. The instructions say I can take up to 4 people with me (only hubby will be eating), but that we have to order and pay seperately. How does this work when you're a married couple? Have I done the wrong thing by accepting this assignment? We were going shopping nearby anyway so I figured we could have lunch paid for!

How do I get round this so it isn't blatently obvious I'm MS-ing them?!!

One other thing. I presume that the payment is in addition to the refund for the meal and is not expected to include it? Just want to be sure.

    Any help gratefully received.

You ONLY get reimbursed for the meal. There isn't a fee for these jobs.

These ones are a "think yourself lucky" type job - GAP are cheeky for doing it the way they do IMO but people accept them so they don't need to change it!

GAP actually do this kind of thing for a lot of their jobs. At least their reports are a "sneeze and you've done it" affair!

For the buffet assignments you can order 1 or 2 FULL buffets!!! You do not have to order separately but if you order more than this then you do. Be careful to order the full buffet. If you order on separate receipts then you will only be reimbursed the price of one buffet and drink whereas the spend accounts for up to 2 buffets and 2 drinks (roughly speaking- as usual GAP's maths or out so you usually end up paying an extra 50p but its worth it to get the second buffet included in the reimbursement)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for this Wensie. Are you sure? My paperwork says to order 1 buffet and 1/2 drinks (incl free refills). I know I'm worrying but don't want to mess up my very first assignment!! I can't find anything on the Gap site that tells me what I'll be reimbursed for or is that meant to be included in the assignment payment?

Any tips on where to get a cheap digital watch (yuk!). Know I need one, but not my idea of style!!

Thanks for all the help & suggestions.

  • Hi All,

I am looking into being a MS, but trying to work out if worth it . Do you get parking and mileage expenses? Also if I don't work at all do I still need to advise tax man?
    any help would be great.

    Hi Obsessed

I'm new to MS-ing but can tell you a little. There are loads of experienced people on this board who can tell you more.

Jobs are either paid a fee or reimburse you an amount you've spent. If you're lucky there will be a job where you will be reimbursed for spending as well as getting a fee, but I haven't come across any of those yet!

I'm doing a job at a well-known restaurant chain tomorrow which will have what I spend (up to a certain limit) reimbursed. This will pay for lunch for hubby & I. I have another job at a phone shop tomorrow where I'm not required to buy anything. This will pay a flat fee.

As far as I can see, expenses are kept to a minimum and they expect you to fund travel, parking etc out of whatever you are given.

Regardless of you not doing other work you must tell the tax man if you are bringing in any income. However, there is an allowance below which you don't have to pay tax so you may not have to give him anything. There are more expert people than me on this board who can clarify further I'm sure.
