Regardless of any good she might have done it must never be forgotten that, at the time, she was thoroughly despised by a large proportion of the population.

Who failed to turn up and vote her of office. ;)

    1979 Popular vote 13,697,923/ 11,532,218/4,313,804

    1983 Popular vote 13,012,316/ 8,456,934/7,780,949

    1987 Popular vote 13,760,935/10,029,270/7,341,651

As you can see more people voted against than for her.

and Tony Blair/ Brown? (With a larger population)

    1997 13,518,167 ............. landslide victory;? ;)

    2001 10,724,953

    2005 9.552, 436

in 1987 about 31million people voted for 3 main partys in 2005 it was about 24 million.

But my point was that large number of people did turn up and try to vote her out

By the way Cameron only got 2.3 million more votes than Foot.

My point is that the reinvented Nu Labour failed to get people off their backsides. Which shows how apathetic we've become.

Now its all about celebrity culture with no substance.

With Unions on the march again. Be interesting to see how a new generation reacts.

I suppose part of the problem was that true Labour supporters had no where to go.

Apathetic yes instead of a true protest song we get the wizard of oz.

I think that is key. With 24/7/365 media coverage, internet, much more data (correct, incorrect and misleading) people question what it is all for. Many more see through the political spin and miss truths.

Whatever way you lean politicians are simply kicking the can and spinning the plates that wobble.

That's why the SDP were formed.

And in doing so, they helped split the labour party so much that neither could beat maggie on their own.

    Maggie gets lucky again.

I thought the SDP were formed a long time before Blair took over
