But some of our stories are true and based on in depth family knowledge rather than " I know x number of people down the pub who say......" There's a difference.

    What a cheek!!

My experiences are not from the pub!!

They are from close personal friends/family. One of them is a highly respected nationally for their work and their complaint was upheld.

You can try and discredit others by the claim your stories have more substance but they still remain the same or of equal standing in that both are typed on a message board. So could still be utter !!!!!!!!.

You don't have a monopoly on your stories being any more true than the next persons however well you like to portray yourself as having the higher ground.

Yes thank you, I am more worried about you at the moment, the amount of accounts/ identities you have on this site is worrying, you are a total waste of bandwidth
Just found this after I just 'outed' him in the disabilities forum. Expect this account to vanish and the phoenix will once again rise from the ashes on a new one.....

You have 10 close friends and relatives of mature years who have been made redundant recently and half of them have been sanctioned for not trying to find work and you believe every one of them?

    OK....

No. I was pointing out that we all can trot out stories of people that have/have not been sanctioned. These are our own experiences, our own stories. They do not make a point more valid. It's like me saying driving red cars is safer than blue as I know 5 people that drive blue cars and they've all had accidents. Then someone else says but I know 5 people who drive red cars and have had accidents...

Neither point is truly valid as it is inevitably going to be swayed by personal opinion.
if someone gives examples of people getting unfair treatment then that means some people are unfairly treated. you saying you know people who havent been unfairly treated does not change anything the poster said. the poster never claimed it happens to everyone.

No. It doesn't. It means that they perceive that they have been badly treated. Truth is, no one except the claimant and the job centre staff know why someone has been sanctioned. What a friend tells you might be only half the truth.

Uncle Norman stories are not factual. They are hearsay. No one is ever going to say "I was sanctioned and it was perfectly fair because I did or didn't do x, y or z". Human nature dictates that people will always put the best slant on their own behaviour.

Thing is, I've never claimed that all sanctions are fair, I am sure there are some that are unjustified and that is why people should keep good records of job searches etc and if sanctioned unfairly, appeal. However, simply claiming that 'I know 10 people that have been made redundant and five were sanctioned, etc' is nonsense.

true but also those you mention who havent been sanctioned maybe should have but have got away with it. ultimately when someone tells you they have been unfairly sanctioned you base how much you believe them on the content of what they say and what you think of them as a person. i know for sure that some people get unfairly sanctioned. it is also well known that the jobcentre have been given targets to sanction so many people per day by the government. the whole sanctioning regime has a guilty until proven innocent stance. it seems so many people in the past have took the pee that they have started to assume everyone is.

surely if the poster cant be sure of their judgement of innocence you also cant go the other way like you have here and claimed the stories to be nonesense.

I have just been sanctioned for 4 weeks because I wrote down the wrong date on a work searching activity. Unfortunately for me I have had an extremely bad week dealing with my ASD son and the 20+ phone calls from the school last week regarding his behaviour, preparing for a school meeting with several officials, head of year and SENCO and just the daily issues of dealing with him, my other children and being in education has all taken its toll on me and my concentration has been affected. I have always followed my advisors advice to the letter but made a small mistake.

Does my example count as unfair, if it's not it's certainly a bit on the harsh side?

On the surface of it it would appear to be unfair. Did you fulfill all the criteria, other than writing a date wrong? Did you explain the mistake to the advisor?

No offence meant, but I honestly do find it difficult to believe that someone would be sanctioned for four weeks JUST for making a mistake in writing down a date. Are there any other issues?

I sincerely apologise if this really is all there is to it.
