    25% deposit - own savings.

My husband and I work full time. Though managing home, work and a kid sometimes seems very stressful, I am glad we are able to afford a nice home now.
There is more to life than increasing its speed.

I definately agree its been all work and no life in saving but hoping once I find right property it would have been worth it. Especially seeing as OH keeps saying I should get a haircut! Really though I've been penny pinching for last few years to get on property market at 35. Here's keeping my fingers crossed :)
  • We had a fair deposit but putting down an extra couple of thousand meant we would get a much better mortgage rate as it took us over a certain percentage. Were fully prepared to cover it all ourselves but were offered the additional bit from my OH's parents which we gratefully accepted.
Worked our backsides off to get the majority of it together ourselves though!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

I was in same situation. Although I had 10% after bit more patience I managed to get to 15%. My OH did suggest we get loan from his parents but I declined as really I want to do this myself as my fear is folk telling me later on that I 'owe them' (and that's after me paying back loan!) I hate being in folks debt which is why I don't ask.

Got mine from parents. I was talking about saving for a deposit (which would have had to be huge in London) and they offered.

I was uncomfortable with it to be honest, but they explained that I would end up with it anyway and they'd rather be able to see me benefit from it. Plus it stopped me having to live a non existent life for the 2 years I'd have to save!

Funnily enough one relic from our days of saving hard is that my OH still cuts my hair.

Both for our first and our current houses, all money that has gone into the deposits and the renovation costs was our own.

We got plenty of free labour provided by FIL whilst we were carrying out major buildng works though, which was an absolute godsend, especially when you're living in a renovation project with a newborn!

It's quite nice knowing that you have managed to get to a point where you can own your house, rather than your parents being responsible for you being on the property ladder, HOWEVER I am not saying I'd ever have been averse to any offer of financial help!

We've saved all of ours ourselves by not going on holidays and running rubbish cars and things can't wait for it all to go through, we are currently buying our first home at the moment.

Bank of mum and dad. I didn't really think this far ahead when I was younger and just did what I wanted with my money - I've had a blast tho :)

in hindsight I wish I had sorted myself out a bit financially but luckily my parents are mortgage free themselves so they have kindly offered to help me out other wise I would still be renting.
