Wedding Reception at home..???

You're wedding sounds awesome
If it was perfect for you then it was PERFECT!
P.s. I'll be wearing converse under my dress, which is a 50's style below the knee petticoated little number. I don't do heel, so why change that for a day that's meant to be personal to me? Just for the sake of other people? DON'T THINK SO!
I am planning a very similar look to you. Not found my dress yet - would you mind me asking where you are getting yours? xThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

I'm not one for spending a lot of money on something i won't wear often, so I'm checking Ebay for dresses. There are a lot of designer copies of dresses from Chinese sellers who custom make it for you, I've emailed a few girls who bought from them and they said the quality was fantastic, fit really well etc. Just check their feedback on Ebay. There's LOADS to choose from.

I'd never even thought of having a reception at home, but thinking about it sounds like a lovely idea

Something i'll consider should i ever get married (i've already decided i only want a small, intimate wedding anyway-there's only about 15 people in my family anyway!)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I am doing a small reception at my parent's house on 1st June - & I can't wait!! For the actual wedding bit, 20 friends & family will travel in a minibus to the local registry office, followed by a boat trip to lunch in a lovely local restaurant on the river.
But then we head back to the house in the minibus, for more of a party. We're inviting another 10/15 people for the evening and are providing a buffet etc I'll be 6.5 months pregnant and the big, white wedding was never my thing - so a more relaxed home vibe was exactly what I wanted! We only decided all this in the past couple of weeks too - so I am very grateful to have been spared months & months of painful planning & preparation!! My fiance and I are very excited indeed!!

It's different, but it's YOUR wedding, and YOUR day! If that is what you both want then do it, if people don't like it then they don't have to come. That's my attitude anyways lol!
I'd say go for it, it would most likely be cheaper, it just depends on how you would do the decorations, catering etc, you don't want to have to be worrying about it on the morning of your big day! But whatever works for you!

It is this august, and hoping for a look a bit like -50s tea length dress - with lacey cap sleeves (don't do sleeveless as feel to naked and spend day pulling up front of dress), with a bright purple underskirt poking out, back seam tights and white patent docmartens or converse - I have only wore heels once in my life and nearly fainted from the agony of it. Ive been looking on ebay etc, and love the idea of buying cheap or second hand x
Sounds amazing! Love the DM idea:D0 -
We had our reception at home- it was brilliant. We put fabric on the sun room ceiling which looked very glam and had a local company do a buffet (we'd had the full meal with family at the venue) The same company loaned us glasses, dishes and an urn to make tea as my family aren't big drinkers.
We had an ipod play list going, Champers from Lidl and M&S wedding cake plus bespoke topper from cakemates.com
The photos turned out really well and we found champers corks in the garden for ages afterwards. Very relaxed and informal and the 'olds' were able to relax in the living room while the toddlers were put to bed
