This may sound like a stupid question but if I were to join Bank of Scotland, would I be able to use Halifax branches to carry out my day to day banking?

I believe so -- they're all part of the same group, after all. I would've thought it'd be worth checking the small print on the website, if you want to be sure.

I applied and have subsequently received an email from Halifax regarding e-banking details.

I have yet to receive the password details, however I will follow this up by phone this evening...

the halifax's preston service center is running at about 7 days in posting out the online passwords.

you can get your username at any time by calling 08456 02 0000.

remember to leave the 3rd box blank the first time!
  • I had a call from a man processing my application, but I have not heard a "Yay" or "Nay" yet. :( Applied on the 15th of May too.

  • I have received the welcome letter and the account agreement to be signed yesterday.

Be aware that you need to send in proof of identity (utility bills, driving license, passport, etc) but this is not clearly stated in the welcome letter under the "What you need to do next" section. The list of acceptable documents can be found in the booklet "About you", right near the end.

In fact, the letter didn't even state that I have to sign and return the agreement or the signature specimen form. They have included a business reply envelope, so I assume I should return them together with proof of identity.

If I was a newbie to applying for financial stuff, I would be totally lost!

When did you apply? And did you receive anything - phone call; e-mail - in between applying & receiving the welcome pack?? ** Sorry - forget this bit - I've just checked previous posts & see that it was YOU that had the phone call!

The Snail-mail's arrived this morning & I've still heard nothing. But I've decided that I'm not chasing it either way. They can have my business [& get shafted for the £100] or not, as they choose! I think I might not get the 100 quid anyway, since I was planning to use my Barclays a/c [for which I also got £100 ! ] as a switcher - but there aren't any DDs or SOs in it...

  • Well, I am genuinely switching from Cahoot... I applied on the 15th of May. The welcome letter was dated 18th of May, but I only got it yesterday, the 24th of May.

I have decided not to post everything and go into the Halifax branch tomorrow to verify my identity.

I got the paperwork this morning.

I also rang them and was told that the £100 would be credited to my account shortly after the second month's £1000 is paid in. She specifically stated that the incentive offer is not specific to residents of Scotland.

The £100 incentive is, of course, subject to you using their switching service etc, but the instructions on their page (LINKY) are fairly straightforward.

"Oscar Hugo" are you sure your application went through OK - it might be worth a phone call??
