Lesson learnt, never using a debit card online again, even through a secure service such as Paypal.
I fear you would have a similar problem if you had used a credit card.

Unfortunately, it's the fact that Paypal are in the middle that is the issue.

Read MSE's Section 75 Refunds article for more credit card protection information.

The chargeback only works when you pay the disputed creditor, NOT an intermediary (like PayPal). Since the firm accepting the payment did not default, no reclaim is possible.
• The main problem with chargeback on a Debit Card is that it has NO legal backing whatsoever. The bank can decide quite arbitrarily whether or not it will refund you.

Always pay on a Creidit Card

You seem quite definite on that, Yangptangkipperbang.

Whilst I accept that there is no statutory right, I do believe there is a contractual right.

I don't even think it is a contractual right. Certainly a customer can ask for it to be done but a bank doesn't have to do it if it doesn't think the chargeback will be successful (they can be fined/charged a fee if they file chargebacks with no or little prospect of success).

• If you think they were dishonest, report them to actionfraud.

Do get in contact with the proposed liquidator. (goballooning@ewsllp.co.uk)

Think about having Jon Rudoni (jon@wickersworld.co.uk) represent you at the creditors meeting on Wednesday.

Take the time to write to your MP about this. I received a reply from my MP yesterday and he is writing to the relevant Minister. It takes very little time to do. Use writetothem.
• That is terrible that you had to go through such an ordeal. Anyway, after reading this I looked on Twitter and found this tweet; 'If you have Goballooning or govoucher vouchers buyer should reclaim cost from credit card provider or debit card issuer under chargeback.' The person who posted this username is @paullewismoney.. I hope this helps
• Don't shoot me - I'm an ex-pilot for Go, recently dropped in the XYZ by what they've done. Don't let it get brushed under the carpet. You may only have paid £79 for a ticket, but some have paid many times more, and the pilots, crews, maintenance people (mostly self employed subcontractors who are in the same position as yourselves) are owed many thousands. You do realise the directors can declare themselves as creditors too and then hold a significant vote on the liquidation process?

Please, please, please:

Register if you're a creditor

Attend the Creditors Meeting - appoint a proxy if you can't (Jon is a good bet jon@wickersworld.co.uk)

Look at the recently formed companies of SKYPOWER LIMITED and SKYPOWER AERIAL FILMING LIMITED and wonder about the closeness of the incorporation dates (23-3-2013) and the day they ceased trading as GO (5-4-2013 I think). I wonder what equipment they are using and how much they paid for it?

Just be aware that 540 days is the max time for any chargeback on debit or credit card.

So in effect any purchase prior to mid November 2011 is not going to be within time for a chargeback.
Even if you have proof of declined flights.

Now if the purchase was over £100 and on a credit card CCA applies and you are Ok upto 6 years.
