As soon as you tell the bank your account is being used by a third party expect it to be closed. You have breached the terms and conditions. This may make it harder for you to open another account at any bank as you may be suspected of commiting or allowing fraud to be committed. You need to get this person to stop using your account or close it and open another one- proceed with caution, you are skating on thin ice.

I doubt you are correct. I have an amount of money paid into my account each month by a third party (not DWP) and I give the cash to someone on their behalf.

Its not fraud. Fraud requires "intent" to deceive and requires the one committing it to gain something or to disadvantage someone else. Where is the fraud in this case?

The DWP clearly know the money is being paid into an account, the claimant has given details to them.

I think the simplest solution is a polite letter to the DWP explaining that you do not want them to make payments into your account.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

As DWP are likely to know only the sort code and the account number, you have at least to prove that you are the real account holder.

It's easy to say that but getting a new account set up, debit card and PIN issued and having it added to my existing internet banking isn't exactly going to be an instantaneous process. It's more of a hassle than simply being able to put a block on the old account like I was hoping to do.

    From #7......
It's not a big deal really, it's not my main account or anything and was only really used to put money by if I was saving for anything.

    So which is it.

A new account should not take long to open (many done online and in mins) and usually will appear overnight in IB, some even straight away.
OK card and PIN will take a few days.

But goven #7. Why not just open a saving acc instead and use your other current account?

The person hasn't had the money moved to another account despite being told to
How was that going to happen?

    Can't you just do it?

Which is what? Those two comments are about different things. The first was in response to saying I could have a new account up and running in the time it took to post the original question and the second was simply saying it's not a big deal if I have to close the old account. They're not mutually exclusive of each other?

Sorry, bad choice of words. I mean she hasn't changed her details with DWP so her money is still coming into my account.

She obviously does not need the Benefit being paid. Or maybe she wants to get you in trouble by saying you are not giving her the money.

    Get it sorted pronto.

She relies on the OP passing money to her.
Some people here seem to be incapable of comprehending that there can be some other shades in human relations besides pure black and white.

It seems simple to me: tell her that she has two weeks to arrange to stop the money coming into your account, after that time you will refuse to pass it to her until the arrangement is made. You could threaten to never pass it on, given that any money in your account belongs to you, but that shouldn't be necessary at this stage.
