O/S Daily Monday 08 April 2013

O/S Daily Monday 08 April 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Yet another flying visit as am getting ready for work.

Fasting day today so it's a nice easy one with a small stirfry for dinner.

Won't be much O/S going on as Monday is always a late day and don't expect to be home until after 7pm.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Did not wake up until 6:15 this morning ,

But I feel dreadful!Did not feel 100% all day Yesterday , But feel even worse today,

I have a few tidying jobs to do at home.

    That's about it.

I'm going to give the Hospital a ring today to see were I'm at on the list.

Its been a couple of weeks since Iv phoned.

Halight, I hope you feel better soon.
Off to the hospital soon, got to go on public transport as I can't see to drive once they have fiddled around with my eyes & it takes ages to get there. I'll be there ages too probably, they seem to make a days worth of appointments all for 10 o'clock.
Hubby is coming with me as he's not working today, well he'll come as far as the front door, then turn tail & run, he hates hospitals, but I can't blame him, he's sat through a lot of hospital deaths, his dad, grandparents & children.
I might do some cooking when we get home or I may just relax as I have work tomorrow & Wednesday.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Cloudy and dull but not so cold here this morning. It's supposed to get better later, so have just hung the washing out on the line.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Lunch yesterday was the 4 bird roast - took longer to cook than it said but I am still trying to get used to a new oven - but at least I'm not cremating everything! The roast was delicious and we had all the normal trimmings with it, my yorkshires rose beautifully, still a little meat LO and some veggies, yorkshires etc, I will incorporate these into another meal tomorrow or Wednesday evening. The menfolk had the prawns made into prawn salad for tea last night I was still too full after lunch, so didn't have anything else to eat yesterday.

We were again productive yesterday - got more stuff sorted from the loft and another car load taken to the recycling centre. I can't believe how much stuff we have up there and we're finding boxes that belong to the previous owners - we knew once we'd moved in they had left one or two boxes up there and we just thought we'd get rid of them but we've taken at least 5 boxes loads of their stuff to the recycling centre. I said to DH I wish I'd realised earlier that they had left this many as I'd load them into the car and took them to their house and unloaded them on to their doorstep and left them sort it out! It's really naughty and when we moved we left our other house we made sure everywhere was spotlessly clean and we'd taken everything from all fitted cupboards, kitchen and loft etc, so nobody had to do that. We know it was the previous owners as it was all boxed and the boxes still had their name on them with the full address from when the stuff was delivered - sadly there was nothing on any value - just stuff they couldn't be bothered to take to the recycling centre.

Back to work for me today - another manic Monday no doubt - but it does make the day go quicker. Tonight we are having smoked sausage and mushroom pasta with creme fraiche sauce - nice and easy meal when I've been at work all day.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Looks grey out of the window today but at least it is dry and doesn't feel cold so I'm happy with that. :)

Tea tonight is Tuna Bolognese and then I have the WI Committee meeting in preparation for the actual meeting on Wednesday. I just need to type up the origami folding instructions to go into each pack and I am all prepared! :T

I have started reading a new book on my kindle (purchased with my birthday amazon gift voucher) called Your Money Or Your Life. It is totally fascinating! At the moment it is describing how we have all been programmed by advertising companies to be "consumers" rather than humans. Synonyms = spend - expend - waste - eat up. We are being programmed to spend our money on things that we don't need (or don't need as much of), which has used the worlds limited resources to make. The more I read it, the more that the thought keeps popping into my head that we are being turned into locusts! It also says that we are spending more time at work (sometimes in a job we hate) to fund these excesses which we don't even need and all because the advertising companies are trying to convince us that "if you just have [this] you WILL be happy", when actually all of this extra stuff is making us UNhappy, weighing us down , more stuff to maintain, insure, clean, find space for, trip over, etc. We have forgotten the word "enough". I only started reading it yesterday but i is fascinating and eye opening!

In the last year I have become minimalist and it is, without a doubt, the best thing I have ever done. No clutter, cleaning is a doddle, I feel like I can avtually BREATHE, I sold all of my unwanted clutter on ebay and made literally thousands of pounds which went into my savings. With a minimalist wardrobe, where everything goes with everything else, there's no more standing there wondering what to wer. It is so liberting - and this book is validating that I made the right move - not only for me, but for the planet. :T

Advertising companies are the enemy. ;)

    Morning!

    Had a busy weekend.

Woke up on Saturday to find the opticians have now refunded us twice. I have moved the second refund to savings and asked the opticians what they want us to do. Ridiculous.

We then went to see inlaws in Birmingham. DS2 had fun playing with his cousins all day. He slept well on the way home! We all had a £1 bet on the Grand National. 12 of us chose horses and the highest ranking horse of that 12, came in ninth.

I watched Arne Dahl on Saturday. I'm not quite sure about it. I love The Bridge, Forbrydelsen and Spiral but I do think that the BBC are buying anything in that genre now and putting it in that timeslot.

Yesterday was all housework and crochet, I'm over halfway on my baby blanket for niece/nephew. I'm waiting for more wool from Deramores at the moment that's on back order. Very frustrating but Deramores have brilliant customer service so I can't complain.

    Off to work today though.

    Morning All,

Had a pretty good night for me. Woke every two hours, but slept in between. Got halfway through Foyles War and fell asleep, so I'll have to catch up on I- player later!:rotfl:

Went out for a carvery with my cousin yesterday, very nice then went to see Dad who was really good. Stayed with him for an hour and a half which is a lot for him.:T
Out with my hairdressser today. She just wants someone to shop with!
Tried to do something on Dad's bank account today and it won't let me, so will have to call in and see whats' wrong. Bet it's to do with the facyt that we have blocked Dad from using it!:rotfl:

Must check my BP tomorrow. Been on these double pills for a week, so it will be interesting to see if they have worked.

Not sure what to have for dinner, depends if I have anything at lunch.

Halight & Hester Hope it goes Okay for you both at the hospital today.
    I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Lamewolf, would a food processor type thing be any good for you ? some of then do almost everything now, and it would save your poor hands.

Got to dash, have good days all xx
