bank issued 2 cards when only allowed 1

hi

just would like a little info if anyone can help. my issue is a while ago before the credit crunch and all banks collapsing i was issued with two credit cards when i should only have ever been issued with one by my bank. This in turn has got me in alot more debt than i would have ever been should i have been issued with just the one. My own bank hsbc did comment on the fact as to why i have two cards (a master card and a visa card) when i visited them one day. i obviously answered i dont know as to why.

heres my question. am i right in order to help me clear one of my credit card debts by addressing the bank to query as to why i was given two cards both with £10000 credit limit on each when i was not even earning any where near that amount. can i some how state that the bank clearly have not followed proto-call or the so called "responsible lending practices" to safe guard customers into getting into further in debt which seems to me like they were setting me up for a fall as when the credit crunch hit they hiked the interest up on the cards to unmanageable levels and cause me to be in serious debt bordering on bankruptcy.

So does anyone know whom i need to contact in order to take this issue further and to prove that the bank has not followed their rules when lending and can i get one of these cards written off due to the bank showing that they clearly have approved the additional card without safe guarding me or following their own proceedures.

hope to have some help from anyone either in this exact situation or know of any organisation i can approach regarding this issue.

much appreciated.

The only person you need to talk to is the man looking back at you in the mirror!

    Not the banks fault.

So you have woke up 5/6 years later and thought about this?

You where under no obligation to use both cards and could have cancelled one of the cards.

What was the interest rate you started with?

On what date was the interest rate increased and what interest rate was it increased to?

The original post is seriously deluded. Congratulations on convincing yourself that someone other than you is to blame.

You asked for credit you got credit, only yourself to blame.

The bank sent you two cards but only you decided how to use them.
If someone sold you a box of matches and you set fire to a house -would the shop keeper be to blame for your poor judgement or would you be ?

That's the principle any claim would be based on -and why the answer is no.

To be fair though, how is it the OP's fault?

Someone else must shirely be to blame!
