    Is this thread for real?

Can I ask what is the professions of workers in the office? Doesnt the MD say something? "Smells" like a "wind up" to me.

Hi this is not a wind up.

I work in a very male orientated profession and we have a large technical support dept

Thanks for all your comments and glad I could make some of you smile at this thread.

Maybe I have come across as this being a more serious issue than it is. Whilst it was making me feel really sick and gag when they did it in the office next to my desk, since I mentioned it to my manager it seems that something has been mentioned to the engineers. Mind you it's only been 2 days so ....

In response to the a/c we do have it in the office and I also have a fan on my desk as I struggle to regulate my temperature and as most people who work in an office know there is normally WW3 over the temp controls. However I should not have to keep putting my fan on though.

Well I have roped in the HR dept and told them what I have done i.e. hidden crystal (non-spray) air fresheners. They have said that they will keep an eye (or smell) out for them ha ha

If it is women in the sales side and all men in the engineers side, and the engineers are deliberately walking to where the women sit and farting to make the women uncomfortable, I'd say that sounds like bullying with a sex discrimination element. If you wanted to make a fuss and expressed it in those terms HR might be more inclined to take notice.
Oh behave! It just sounds like it's friendly banter in an office. I'm sick and tired of working in environments where we have tiptoe round women's feelings all the time. If you want equality, learn to act like a man.

I agree to a certain point.

Trust me when I say I can give as good as I can get, however ... there is a line when it becomes pathetic, immature and discusting. There is a difference between friendly banter and making people feel uncomfortable in their working environment, and its not even their environment to begin with.

No-one tiptoes around in our office (that and most of the men have size 12 feet :rotfl:) but you say about equality to learn to act like a man ... how about the men get some perspective and learn to appreciate us women :D

This thread was only started to get peoples options ... I did not and wont make this a serious HR issue (mind you we dont have HR dept, just the PA to the MD) AND it is nothing about equality, sexist etc etc ... It is about discusting engineers and their smelly bum's in an office :p

Well it's been day 3 and so far they have kept their trumps for outside :rotfl:

Have I entered a time warp back to the 1950's? The behaviour sounds pretty offensive to me too - I wonder would these men do this in front of a (female) boss or in company with their wives. As for 'learning to act like a man...' how about trying to learn some manners? or is that just beyond you? I have to say that the men that I work with from directors down to cleaners never behave like that, surely it's just simple courtesy and respect?

Oh - and I have an engineering degree, so I know a lot of engineers..
