Farting in a small office

Sounds ridiculous dones'nt it
but trust me after months of them having "farting contests" it can be horrible.
The office is open plan however we have a glass divider between our side (sales) and technical side. This is why the men out number us ladies.
Unfortunately my manager, 2 account managers, the technical director (who's office in our sales side) and sometime even our MD joke about the smells etc and they are fortunate to have windows but me and my other administrator are against the wall inbetween both sides
No-one in our office suffer from asthma (fortunately cause the would be in serious trouble with the amount of toxic fumes) but what I wanted to get was a de-oderiser or crystal air freshner on both our desks to try and battle the raging war of farts. I am going to get them and see what happens tomorrow.
To be honest it is always worse after dinner, when they eat their korma's, currys etc etc. It has been mentioned a few times but they have always joked it off and said that it's better out than in.
Has anyone else used an air freshner / or had a smell issue in an small office?0 -
yes due to the damp (in arch under railway), mice, and the no fresh air - we used a deodoriser solid air freshener as they would not allow us a spray in the main office but we had one in the loo and we all got told off as someone complained that when someone had sprayed it , it must have gone on the loo seat so we were told to put the lid down next time of the spray would be taken away!

IMO you should to address this with the managers and be clear you find this behaviour offensive and that it is affecting your wellbeing, don't let this be laughed off. Some cultures would find farting contests far more rude and intimidating than even we do, this is not an inclusive environment it's testosterone unchecked. They need to behave like professional adults and head to the gents. If someone had a BO problem you'd expect a manager to take on the difficult task of addressing the issue privately, this is no different.
If that had no effect I'd leave the room every time it started for an unpaid break.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Possibly because they are revolting? Horrible floral/ chemical wafts all day every day just in case someone farts. To me the only nice ones are natural vanilla/ cinnamon and even that I wouldn't want to smell all day. It's a small office apparently, not a massive open plan thing where you can't smell what is on the next desk.
Also some people are allergic or at higher risk of asthma attacks from chemical fragrances. Can't see why the OP can't have an unscented odour eliminator spray for occasional use tho.
a tiny teeny one on your desk surely wouldn't cause a asthma attack? hadn't realised was small office tho, fair do's. That's a lot of people in a small office!0 -

Could you get them to invest in a few of these instead?0 -

I was in what I would say was small (possibly 3 times the size of my bedroom) and we had 13 people. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It can do in susceptible individuals, depends how close the desks are, if they are having a bad day/ week etc. Or they could make someone feel queasy, depending on the layout of the room and airflow, sometimes you get a whiff of something every time the door opens to the corridor say, that would be enough to make me feel queasy after a few hours. _pale_
Maybe the OP should just barf right there in the office next time? That might get the message through their pigheads!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
