Broadband only?

My current situation is, I have no land-line, although there is a phone socket on the wall, connected to the telegraph pole.
I have no need of telephone services, as I seldom make any calls (don't know anybody I want to ring often), and the odd call I do make, I make on my mobile.
What I'm looking for is a BB only option.

Only options for that are..
Virgin Media Cable (if available)
3G/4G through a dongle or your mobile phone
Satellite
Some areas have wireless BB and some have fibre without a phone I think but these are no generally available.0 -
The only real options to consume data over a telephone line without the voice services is to look at SDSL or a leased line. Expect around £125 per month for a 512k connection.43580

I'm not in a VM or Fibre Optic area, and I'm sure as hell not paying £100+pm, so I guess I'll be staying with my Dongle.0

I don't know why some people get so hug up about wanting broadband only but because they are not in a Virgin Media area complain...VM broadband without a phone line is about £23 a month, so if you can get an ADSL provider that can supply phone and broadband for the same or maybe even less than that, then buy that and just don't plug a phone in...simple really0

If you want ADSL broadband, then to get the signal you need an active landline-which requires that you pay line rental.
Complaining about that is like buying a car and then complanig that you have to pay road tax to drive it anywhere. No free lunch, and no free laptop

^ It's what I do. They give you a telephone number but why do you need to plug a phone in?
However I am with Virgin Media, but it wasn't made clear at the time of selling the contract that I didn't need a phone line with them. They can check, there has been zero usage so I am hoping to get it all back and start off with a new "BB only" contract.0 -
All I really wanted was BB but It was as cheap if not cheaper to have the BB and phone line installed with virgin.
I don't have a phone and I do not intend to buy one.Owing on CC £00.00 :j

It's cheaper to have BB only rather than BB + phone on VM but only by a few quid. Often to get a free install or some cashback deal it pays to take BB + phone initially and cancel the phone once it's minimum term is up - that's what I did.
I still use my old landline number though - I had it transferred to Vonage which for me worked out cheaper. Sometimes if you take a package deal from VM including TV it could be cheaper to take the phone though. VM run their business like a car boot stall and you have to haggle to get the best deals.0
