HELP! Vauxhall Vectra Engine Management Light

Hi, I'm trying to sort out a mates 01 reg Zafira 1.8. but having a nightmare. Here's what happened.
The car overheated as the gauge is faulty, not too sure of what the gauge would have read if accurate. I wasn't driving it. The car came to me as it seemed to lose power at about 4000 rpm (sounded like a Cam sensor to me at the time) and when you got to 70 mph, it went completely flat. The diagnostics showed a misfire in no 1 cyl so I changed the coil pack and erased the code. It ran very much the same but with a slightly better response up to about 70 MPH. It did seem to surge a lot during all rpms though.
I then checked the continuity between the CTS brown wire and the ecu pin and it is fine. I used Noid lights to check the injectors are operating. Since cleaning the connector on the engine ecu, the car went from running on four down to three, then two, then one, now nothing at all. Won't even start. I pushed the pin on the fuel rail and it squirts out there so should be getting fuel, but the plugs are dry after cranking. Another odd thing is that the engine fan comes on whenever it feels like it, and so does the traction control (I think that's what it is) light, the coolant light and the EML. Still showing clear on the codes though..

Any ideas guys? I'm really stumped on this one.
