HELP! Vauxhall Vectra Engine Management Light
Options

My Vectra had constant problems with the engine warning management light coming on and it was always the EGR valve. Had 8 fail under warranty, and was eventually told I needed a new engine (once the warranty had expired) which would cost over £3k!!!! Got independent engineer to have a look who said car had been factory fitted with the wrong sized pistons! Strangely, Vauxhall then decided they would replace my engine FOC.0

i bought the car 3 weeks ago an it was fine now every now an then the light comes on ant the car starts to splutter when trying to excelerate i put a sports air filter on with a surround heat sheald and it was running ok but then i have changed it to one with no heat sheild thinking it would get more air
any ideas thanks
All sorts of problems can be caused by chav filters.
I'd advise using std paper elements, changing them regularly and looking at ways of improving the air flow to the std box.
Some engines use hot wire air flow sensors and the oil from oiled element filters (K&N etc) forms a residue on them and knackers them.Happy chappy0 -
its a 1999 vec
i have put the original one back on and its is still coming on every now an then when am driving round normally when it come on though the car dramatacly looses power i have no exceleration at all0 -
Inspect the air ducting around the air flow meter.
Likewise the wiring.
Get a fault code reading. Either find out how to do it yourself or pay a garage to do it for you.Happy chappy0 -
buy a code reader..EBay are good for cheap ones. I have one that hitches to my laptop that identified a failed EGR on mine, as well as some other issues.
EGRs can be a sod if they go strange..loss of power is possible. I took mine off, used a hammer, blowtorch, stilsons and a vice on it, and got it working again. Then bolted it to the outside of the engine and put a £2.50 blanking plate over its original hole. No more issue...heh.0 -
Yeah, I capped off the vacuum feed to my EGR so it doesn't do anything any more.Happy chappy0

Common problem, not difficult to change, but use a genuine part, copies can be hit and miss.0
