Buying a heAring aid if he is bed ridden will be pointless. How will they measure up his ear without him being there for the correct fitting mould? How will they programme his aid without testing his hearing and without him going to the company to get it programmed?

Get an NHS one in the hospital he is in. The audiologist will come to the ward and arrange this. Perhaps his hearing changed while he had the last one which is why it wasn't as good anymore, they really aren't 'second rate' and the 'free' ones specsavers supply are the same as the NHS ones as its an NHS service.

Please don't fall not the trap of buying something that isn't actually programmed for him as it really won't help.

I was hoping as he had only had it 1 month they would just copy the one they gave him. I really don't know how it works.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

They'd still have to have a new mould for which they'd need him there. The hospital dept can get a rushed mould for him within a few days, test his hearing straight away and get it all set up within the week if they're asked. Get the nurses to contact audiology and ask them to sort this, I can tell this is so important for you all and they should make this priority.

Whilst not the most ideal solution, the NHS dept may also supply something like an EchoTech which is an amplifier that he can use to be able to hear people talking to him so he isn't completely without anything.

As an update to this (as I like to read people's updates...)

It was in fact St John in Grange as mentioned by a wonderful poster! I called them who were absolutely fantastic and had a copy made and posted to me within 3 days.

I went to give it to dad in hospital and honestly he was so made up. He hadn't been able to sit for a while yet he was sitting up and in the box and showing me what all the attachments were and how it worked and he was just happy - making me emotional even typing it!

I now take it with me - in it's fabulous hard backed case - and we use it for the visits then he gives me it back to take away again.

Thank you so much for all your posts and I have one very happy dad in hospital now.

EDITED to add it was lovesabargain who found St John for me. I'd thank you a million times over if I could!
