My dad is very poorly in hospital, perhaps a few months left
For the last few years has got progressively deaf and used nhs hearing aids. He still couldn't hear great but muddled on.
Then a month ago bought a quite expensive one with an 'aeral' on......
He is in hospital and lost it, think he went to sleep, woke up and it fell out. The bed was changed and its gone.
He was so upset, its the first time he's been able to hear in years. I don't know where it is from, grange over sands 'he thinks' and cost £900.
He may not have loong left, can't get out of hospital so those who have hearings aids, what do you recomend? Can I just order something off the internet?

Why didn't he go to his local NHS Audiology department? Is it in the same hospital he is a patient in?
There's a long running thread on this board for help with hearing impairment.

He can't walk and iss bed ridden in hospital, but has said he has has his alocation of NHS ones? He has a 'spare' NHS one but it doesn't help him much.
We can pay for one, but I hoped people might point me in the right direction? I don't really know the first thing about it.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Oo thanks for the added link, I'll have a read and see if it helps me with my ordering. I don't know where to start.....Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

He will need his hearing tested in an NHS clinic to get an NHS aid, and you would need to find out exactly which company tested his hearing to supply his original aid, you can't just order one from anywhere, and if you do find the original company are you prepared to spend another £900?If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

Thank you for your reply, yes we would pay to replace. He only has a few months left and the change he had in his hearing this last month was tremendous.
I have now posted on the thread linked - thank you so much for the link.
Many thanks.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I'm afraid it was more than likely stolen. I have been informed on many occasion not to take anything with any monetary value into hospital as it will be taken. You could try lost property just in case someone has handed it in.
My poor father had his shaving equipment stolen on the first night of being in hospital.
Have you spoken to the institute for the deaf and hard of hearing to see if they can help.
Sorry to hear about your father I hope you can find some help with this.0 -
We don't think it was stolen as he had it in his ear. He isn't slEeping well so doesn't know when he is 'going to sleep' so he can take it out.
He thinks he fell asleep, it fell out, and unfortunately when he woke and got moved to change the bedding, it got swooped up in it.
The nurses have looked everywhere, it was just so sad to see him upset, he's had it a month and it brought him great joy. I just want to replace it and take his pain away.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

I wouldn't have posted normally but this has annoyed me. Whatever the hospital might like to say the fact is the current aids are not working. You wouldn't make do with glasses that you couldn't see out of.
What happened to being treated with the same level of care and respect from the day you are born to the day you die?

Kittiej - its ok. Honestly.
I just want to pay to get another hearing aid, we don't have long left and don't want him to go without something I can pay for which will clearly make him happy.
I just don't know anything about them......Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I find it hard to believe the Nhs would give out 2nd rate hearing aids to people just 'cos they aren't paying for them. The latest Nhs aids are tiny with ariels, if you have your Dads spare one the hospital may re-programme it if he's not happy.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
