those with hearing aids??????

Have you asked the hospital if they can supply an appropriate aid and you will pay?
It seems bad that he's in hospital with all their equipment on site yet you have to go externally, especially since he was in their care when the hearing aid was lost.
It's not acceptable (though I understand that you are feeling bad enough due to dad having little time)Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
Do you have access to his paperwork which will tell you where he bought his aids from? In the short term, although not as good, he still has his NHS aids which will help him. Do let the ward staff know he won't be able to hear them very well just now..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I don't have any paperwork at all, dad lives 1.5hrs away from me.
He is, however, now in a cancer specialist hospital in Newcastle which is only 20mins from me so I can visit every day.
The ward staff know about his hearing problems and so will make arrangements for him. I will certainly asky if they can recommend anything on Monday. I know Dad has tried for many years to hear and its only this last month it has worked - with the one he paid for.
We don't have time for us to go back and forth to try and fix it. And when I know he got one that worked I'd rather, for now, pay and have him smile at least.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

My poor father had his shaving equipment stolen on the first night of being in hospital.
Have you spoken to the institute for the deaf and hard of hearing to see if they can help.
Sorry to hear about your father I hope you can find some help with this.[/QUOTEe ]
Why on earth would anyone want to steal a hearing aid?? they aren't the least bit valuable to anyone but the person it's for!
Op, I would ask that your father speaks with an audiologist at the hospital he is at. You would then know what you are after and I think spec savers supply aids now
Good luck x0 -
Just another thought, if he can remember where he bought them, they would have a record of what he had I'm sure, also did he take an Insurance out with it? (If he knows where he got it they can tell you if they have insurance) or just his home insurance as my sons aid worth £2500 is covered with our home insurance x0

There's no point in anyone stealing a hearing aid - they are custom made to suit the individual hearing loss and even the ear. Can your dad check his house insurance? Mine covers items away from the home including hearing aids. Or the hospital may be willing to pay towards the cost.
Otherwise contact a private hearing aid dispenser and you will have a new aid for your dad within a week at a cost of around £800.0 -
Zacsmum and lovesabargain thanks for your replies.
My plan is tomorrow ask the hssopital if I replace the hearing aid if they could check he has it morning and night - not much point spending so much if it can just get lost in his bed linen each day.
Then 'try' and locate the seller in grange over sands, get a replacement and give to dad.
Also speak to dad and try the home insurance route so he has a 'back-up' - but that's secondary to getting a quick replacement.
I'm hoping the seller is cheaper than £900 as he will already have dads ear imprint - but maybe thatwishful thinking.....Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I didn't see the bit you put about grange over sands. Grange is a very small place , we often drive through it so my bet would be these people.. Good luck x

Ooo thanks lovesabargain, I googled it and it could possobly be them. He mentioned grange over sands whilst talking today but he can't really hold sentances so it was all I could catch.
Thank you though for posting. And I'll let you know on Monday.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Buying a heAring aid if he is bed ridden will be pointless. How will they measure up his ear without him being there for the correct fitting mould? How will they programme his aid without testing his hearing and without him going to the company to get it programmed?
Get an NHS one in the hospital he is in. The audiologist will come to the ward and arrange this. Perhaps his hearing changed while he had the last one which is why it wasn't as good anymore, they really aren't 'second rate' and the 'free' ones specsavers supply are the same as the NHS ones as its an NHS service.
Please don't fall not the trap of buying something that isn't actually programmed for him as it really won't help.0
