I just hope everybody is going to continue to read lots more books, now that the Harry Potter saga is so nearly over!

(Cynical thought: If he dies, where will everybody hang their bunches of spontaneous flowers?)

As for supermarkets selling books, I always thought it was a bad idea. They should stick to what they do best: food. There's no excitement in picking up a book along with the potatoes, even if it is cheap.

And there is a cost...now supermarkets have a stranglehold on publishing, publishers daren't risk their necks any more. They will be focussed on looking for "the next Harry Potter" now - who was the Harry Potter before this Harry Potter, I wonder?

Going down to Waterstone's now to join the queue.....(sermon over!)

Regarding the stench: I think (i hope?) it's a Muggle reference.
Maybe Rabbitmad is a Slytherin and doens't like gatherings of non-wizards.

We (John Lewis) are selling it for £4.99. We slashed the price today, was originally selling it for £8.89 (i think it was). Thats Reading, I'm sure other stores will be selling it for a fiver as we are 'never knowling undersold' and it's common knowledge that ASDA are selling it for £5.
Ah, now I don't know what to do. I was going to buy it from ASDA, since it was essentially taking money from Walmart! But that means trekking out to Lower Early.
I'd normally be happy to buy from John Lewis, but surely at 4.99 they're going to be making a loss.

Is it true that once the first batch of Harry Potter 7's have gone at Asda, we'll no longer be guaranteed the fiver price?
  • This thread appears to have descended into a worry of if there is enough stock.

The supermarkets will have made sure they have enough stock. DOES NO-ONE REMEMBER THE LAST BOOK???

The stores will have pallets of them at the shop door like they did last time.

With regards to the price, Yes, once the first run has ended (I don't know the UK run, but the BBC are claiming the US had a print run of 12 MILLION) and the hype has died down, and we have all found out what has happened the price will be back to normal, as there is not the demand (The good old supply and demand thing)

If you want the book, I would advise you buy it this week. If you want it to read on holiday in a few months time, buy the book this week. If you have not bought into the franchise, don't bother.

p.s. I am awaiting the good old postie and hope it will be here today. I paid far too much at Waterstones and if it does not arrive today, I too will be off to the supermarket.
