I thought that you had to clear immigration at the first port of entry into the UK?

You do and then it's through security again. Ceebeeby is giving you wrong info. The procedure is outlined here:

That's right- and even with a priority pass, it can take some time to get processed - however my biggest concern would be if your flight is kept in a holding pattern prior to landing if the airport is busy - and at Heathrow - that is a distinct possibility.

I wouldn't worry about it. If BA issue the ticket for such a short connection time they take responsibility for you. If you miss the flight they will put you on the next one and if that flight isn't until the next day they will put you up in a hotel.
That brings up an interesting question, do the EU regs on delays work for this?
If you arrive at your final destination more than 3 hours later than scheduled, even though it might be because of a missed connection, BA allowed you to by a ticket that quite possibly/probably would result in the delay. So would the compensation be payable?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • Terminal 5 to terminal 5 transfers are pretty straightforward, easily doable in under an hour, and ifbthere are any delays just let the ground staff know and they'll queuebjump you (we got from plane to departure gate in 15 minutes a few weeks ago)

You shoudl have booked Icelandair. My flight from NYC was late. I asked the cabin steward what would happen about my transfer to the GLA flight at Rekyavik, expecting the worst. She said "They will hold the flight for you" and, do you know, they did! I thought to myself "This would never have happened at LHR".

too right it wouldn't....miss your ATC slot at LHR and there could be a very long wait for a new one!

Was that including coming through immigration?

How do you think all of the other passengers on the plane felt waiting for you? What if they had connections at the other end to reach. I would never expect an airline to inconvenience hundreds of others by holding back a flight just for me.

Schedules are there for a reason. If all airlines regularly held back departures then the whole system would collapse. Small airports might be able to get away with it a little but there's no chance of it happening at LHR.

Yep, due to a delay on our incoming flight we were able to queue jump, but as it was sunday evening it was fairly quiet anyway.

To me that would be a reason to avoid Icelandair.
