Argue, but never quarrell - never use words as a weapon to wound, it just bounces back and damages both of you.
I agree it's important to keep separate interests and ideas, so as to remain a person not just half of a couple.
Compassion, tolerance, love, respect, honesty and lots of sex....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Talk to each other! Don't let things worry you and not tell them. If you think they've changed behaviour / are upset ask why. And if you're upset, explain why. I've seen marriages fall apart just because they stopped talking to each other, assumed the wrong thing etc. You need to be able to talk about how you feel - especially over the little things - it will make the big things easier.0
