CPR call blocker - anyone have one?

I just got a call from a company who had informed me that of the 200+ companies that that call us very irritated people at home daily with unwanted calls I am registered with over 65 of them. Having stupidly given my details on web sites for things like netmum competitions etc or surveys. My details are apparently being sold around. This company have contacted me to say that they can get stop completely 98% of the calls making it illegal for the companies to call me, apparently they do this by having me removed from the call lists. Then I have a box installed in my house which for the 2% they cannot stop I can physically block when they call stopping them in the future.
Of course this comes at a price. £1.90 a month. It doesn't seem much but I can't help but think it might be a scam. They are calling me back tomorrow. I should have written down the name of the company it's clear gone from my head but I know it had 'secure' in the title.
Anyone else had a call like this??

The 98% they are spaffing about is probably just them registering your number with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). You can register yourself for free here: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/number_type.html
It won't instantly block calls but it means your number goes on a database which UK companies must check before calling you. If they still give you a sales call it is illegal although not if it is not a sales call or you have explicitly given them your number. It usually cuts back on spam calls a fair amount but it isn't a 98% guarantee.0 -
Im also considering buying one of the CPR call blockers. Please could somebody advise who has one of these what happens if a call from a withheld number (or blocked number) is received? What does the caller hear, ie engaged tone, ringing tone, recorded message etc...

I did buy one in the end and it's doing it's job!
I was testing it last week and if someone phones from a withheld number, they can hear the call connect, it rings once then just goes silent.
On my home phone, I don't hear it ring, it just has a red light that blinks so you know it's blocking the call.
Edit - you do have to set it up by typing in a short code so you choose if it blocks withheld, international, unavailable etc etc. I found it very easy.0 -

I have to say - Get a truecall, I have one and cannot live without it now, you have many options, I can choose to block withheld callers, unavailable callers, up to 1000 telephone numbers, block international callers, the best thing about it is that I can still let genuine callers through if they are calling from one of the blocked categories. I can choose what these callers hear when they call me, I can record the conversation if I want to. I can see all the blocked calls online if I want to, I could keep typing all day about what it can do, all I can say is ''it does what it says on the tin'' - with a 30 day money back guarantee you cannot go wrong tbh.0

Maybe better but much more expensive at around £130 for the unit with a memory card to record, followed by a £20 per year subscription for recording calls after the first year.
The CPR unit sells for around £400 -

I'm considering getting True Call. My mother is 89 and lives in the USA and I worry that it might block US calls I need to recieve (emergency calls from doctors etc.). Most of the pest calls I get seem to come from Indian call centres. Is it easy to just block calls from India and not other international phones?0

It usually just comes up international with no code or clue as to where from so i think it would block all international calls.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
