Hi,

I was thinking about buying a CPR call blocker as I'm paying BT £4.50 a month so it would pay for itself within the year:money:.

However, I am a bit suspicious with the authenticity of many online reviews. One company especially, who are based in Luxembourg;), seem to have 100's of 5 star reviews from people who don't seem to be reviewing other things........

Do any Mse peeps have one and if you do, does it work?

(hoping it will block all the usual rubbish and I can manually block the select number of drunk folk that have mistyped the local taxi firm into their mobiles, trust me to be 1 digit different to the taxi lol)

    Hi,

I bought one of these from Amazon and I can truthfully say that it does what is says in the blurb.

Out of the box it comes pre-programmed with a couple of hundred known nuisance numbers and should one slip through then a quick press on the button on top of the box will block that number forever.

You can set it to block all sorts of nuisance calls using codes from your telephone's keypad.

The only problem is that it cannot block individual "withheld" numbers(because it doesn't know what the number is!) but you can block ALL withheld numbers.

Unfortunately a lot of NHS services withhold their number.

This description on Amazon is accurate (and at the moment it's £10 off RRP)

    After thought...

You do need Caller ID on your phone for it to work properly

Yes, and no. You cannot block incoming calls and it is all or nothing. Scam call and texts are added to my mobile address book with the name SCAMMER and a silent profile ring tone. You have to add each one as you get them, but it works!

If you have an Android phone it's easy to block callers/texters https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=embware.phoneblocker

As for home phone get one of the Panasonics https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3871687

Block everyone except people on your white list -the rest can be truly blocked (they get an engaged tone) or can leave a message.

This CPR looks a complete faff and far from perfect and you need to learn stuff.

I have one and it is easy to use - you press one button when you get an unwanted call and it blocks it. Simples!

There are other options which are easy to set up (the instructions are clear) but you can just use it straight out of the box without setting any options.

Look around for deals and special offers as you can get it cheaper than the RRP.

I don't have anything to do with the company other than I bought one before Christmas and it has cut out over 90% of the unwanted calls I was getting.

I am thinking of buying one of these (Ebay item 300879351416), but does anyone have experience of whether it will pass the incoming phone numbers through from a BT line to Orchid+ based home phone wiring at sufficient strength to be useful please?

That's what it does, as does the Truecall. You should ensure this is connected to your master socket, with everything else downstream of it.

What I am seeking specific reassurance of is, does it pass the BT 'Caller ID' signal at a sufficiently high strength to be useable?, and if not would the Orchid V4 Plus (powered) boost such signals supposing the call blocker were wired 'after' it (i.e. with the Orchid between it and the BT socket)?

It would appear to be this

    http://hqtelecom.com/products/pro-call-blocker-ver-2-0/

    and the FAQs state:

    1. My existing telephone handset stopped displaying the CALLER ID information when I installed the PRO Call Blocker, as described in the manual.

This happens when the CallerID signal provided by your phone service (Telco) is not strong enough for the T-Lock Call Blocker to work as well as the telephone handsets connected to the “PHONE” port of the blocker. SOLUTION: To prevent this, we recommend that you install the T-LOCK Call Blocker in parallel with your existing phone handsets (this applies to both, wired and wireless handsets). Please refer to question 9.0 below for more details on parallel installations.

I have the £40 cpr global call blocker and an orchid (no separate power supply for the orchid).

They both work perfectly (there is no "faff" with the call blocker, and you don't need to learn any "stuff"!).

You plug your phone into the call blocker and the cord from the orchid goes into the "input" side of the call blocker.
