  • We got Harvey from June and Michael, had him 5 years now. Was going to get a puppy sourced locally but saw Harvey who was a 3/4 year old dog when we got him and decided to adopt him, mainly because like us people prefer puppies. No regrets as dogs go he has been great.

    I'm confused by your post.
You were going to get a puppy locally but then saw a 3/4 year old dog (does this mean 9 month or 3 to 4 years old?) because people like you prefer puppies......smiley-confused005.gif

Really saddened to see a thread filling up with new posters all suddenly posting to say exactly the same thing with exactly the same use of English etc. Always a bad sign when that happens, it would never be necessary in a legit organisation. I would be very wary of this organisation.

Especially when the original post dates back to 2013/14!
  • I adopted a cat through Cyprus Pride House recently and I am happy to say I had no problems whatsoever.
You pay a minimum adoption fee of £100 for a cat, although you can pay more to help support the rescue work if you can afford it.
The minimum fee covers neutering, vaccinations and transport. They wait to fly the animals to Britain until there are a number of animals ready to travel to their new homes as sending several at once keeps the costs down.
CPH are also involved in neutering programmes in Cyprus to try to cut down the number of stray animals needing rescue, by the way.
I find it bizarre that people who have no direct experience of the rescue are raising suspicions based on nothing more than firstly, the alleged similarities in the way people defending them use English, and, secondly, a thread becoming active early this year after being dormant for a while.
I found this thread because I was Googling CPH when I started the adoption process. I would suggest the poster who restarted the thread possibly had the same experience.
I decided to contribute to the discussion because I thought it would be a shame if anyone else who was thinking of adopting was put off by the negativity here.
Finally, for those who are wondering why I chose an overseas rescue, I turned to the Pets4Homes website because rescues near me were not keen on the fact that I wanted an indoor cat. As soon as I made contact through that website, I was told that the cat would be coming from a rescue in Cyprus.

Things must have changed since I had my last cat then.
Cat Protection came out and said as we live on a bus route - not a busy road at all, just a road on an estate - they would only let us have a cat if it were to be kept indoors.
That was despite the fact that we have fields for 6 miles at the back of our house.

I refused as my own personal opinion is that cats are outdoor creatures. My old boy loved his 'massive playground'.

because these are classic actions of those who want to promote something they are connected to. They make several posts under different identities using similar language.
  • Actually, Sheramber, I don't think the use of language was that similar. And as I said in my original post, this forum comes quite high up on a Google search so it's perfectly possible other people who had adopted from Cyprus Pride House found this thread that way.
    I know I did.
It's all very well to try to be savvy and pride oneself on one's ability to spot fraudsters. But it is simply unfair for the posters who did so to smear the reputation of a rescue they know nothing about based on such flimsy evidence.

Actually, I think it might simply come down to the individual preferences of the people running the rescues. But in Glasgow, the rescues I contacted were not keen on giving cats to indoor-only homes.
I have kept happy, healthy cats for many years. Sometimes indoor, sometimes outdoor, depending on my living arrangements at the time. But always with the cat's best interests at heart.
And whatever one's personal opinions, I think it's better for a cat to have a loving home than to languish in a cage at a rescue centre while the staff insist it must have their idea of the perfect home.

You do not think it is similar, others have voiced differing opinions above.

    I have voiced no opinion.

    Each to their own.
