The last I heard was that VM were one of the ISPs who would warn their own customers rather than give out name and addresses of their IP users.
So if someone did find that your IP was used to get illegal downloads, they would go to VM who would send you a letter telling you to cease such activities or internet access would be withdrawn. I think they would actually allow you a couple of chances before actually cutting you off. They would not hand over your details to anyone.
I'm pretty sure this was the case a few years ago for all ISPs but I do remember reading some(not VM or any other UK ISPs) have given in to pressure and disclosed their customer's details.
Perhaps the op might be better off checking if this is true?0 -
Seems like a phishing expedition to me. As far as I'm aware the company who are accusing you, would have had to get a Court order to force the release of your name/address.Not worth doing for one person. If they were pursuing this course, they would be chasing 1000s of people who used Limewire, and the stories would be all over the internet, but I had a brief search and can't find any current stories.0

...yup, the info would relate to the account holder...but as I've said there is no way that they have applied for a Court order for one name - it would cost far too much -only "worth" doing for them if they harvest 100s or 1000s of names and addresses to pursue.:)0 -
