It's a Govt requirement for ALL ISP's to retain IP logs for two years minimum, VM included.

The only proper way for these downloads to be 'traced back to you' would be if the IP was yours at the time.

    Therefore either:

    1. The people who are accusing you have already got your IP (and most likely obtained a court order to force the ISP to give them the information). If this is the case, the question is effectively answered.
    2. There is no two. If they haven't got this information from your ISP you really have nothing to worry about. Are you sure this is not a scam?

It seems incredibly unlikely they would just have an address as obviously the occupants could have changed.

Can you tell us anymore about how they contacted you?

The main reason I ask is that there is a virus that claims to be 'copyright enforcement' and asks for money. Of course, if you enter payment details they will just fraudulently use your card.

It seems like they may be phishing for information. However as you've already contacted them there is little you can do now.

Given that you haven't done anything wrong hopefully this should resolve itself fairly soon :)
