Surely this cant be permitted

I have been reading a number of threads this afternoon and have noticed that a certain individual is being very rude, aggressive and nasty to another. On one of the threads someone asks why there is this anger and annoyance and this individual came back and said no reason except for this other person views. I have read all the posts and nothing written by the person being vilified justifies this response to them. I have also noticed that their responses to this individual has been very calm, polite and bewildered as to why they are being treated like this.

Some of the posts from this individual are getting nasty and he/she blatantly tells this poster to leave and that they are not wanted. Surely that is not okay on this forum. I have felt compelled to report these posts but this individual is still making nasty posts and I dont think it is right. What can the forum team do about this?

Stuff takes time .... I don't think "the team" are paid. So they're not sitting at desks waiting to solve problems.

    It'll happen.

I believe I know the posts which you are talking about and the user in question.

As PasturesNew points out, the forum team here are volunteers so they're not sitting, waiting and handling reports the moment they come in. I would also gather that due to the high traffic that passes through the MSE forums there are a high number of reports to deal with each day, some warranted, some not so warranted. The moderators need time to check each of these posts and given the pattern of harassment on display here may need to go as far back as possible to try and pinpoint the cause of this.

Nonetheless, if people continue to report this user for their behaviour it is quite likely that sooner rather than later MSE will decide that they are not a suitable element for the community.

In the meantime, just dump the user on ignore if you so desire. Generally, people post in such a manner to gain a reaction and if no reaction is forthcoming they go elsewhere.
  • If the posts aren't reported the team may not know about them. I also get the feeling from the forum rules that the Forum team don't have the time or the inclination to intervene in spats which break out on threads, and may decide to warn or even PPR one or both forum users involved.

I see one in the wrong, not the other. The abusive one seems to have really taken against the other poster for no apparent reason whatsoever.

    I've reported them too.

Just keep reporting them, all of them.

It will happen, but it happens slowly.

I think it's important in situations like these forum users who stand by the 'be nice to all money savers' guideline fight the urge to snap badly back or foster a dispute (I regret a post or two I made earlier referring to it) but pull together for a harmonious place where disagreement politely is tolerated, even supported, but offensiveness is not.
