I grew up in a pit village, where even years ago the main entertainment was to get completely legless at every opportunity for the whole weekend. Then I joined, first the merchant navy, where even at 16 I could have as much booze as I wanted, later the army, where outside the UK booze and cig's were dirt cheap. One part of my service in BAOR, involved a period of many months when my time was divided between my gf's German pub, and the Corporals' Club I ran. I woke up one morning, reached for and lit a fag, went to my locker for the brandy bottle, and was found collapsed on the floor. This scared me so much that I completely gave up alcohol for many years. Later I drank again, but in moderation. I also gave up smoking shortly after leaving the army.

I have been told that the really heavy drinking, bad diet and heavy smoking at a young age, will have been responsible for my later bowel problems and breathing difficulties. I have a colostomy, having had my diseased bowel removed. I am waiting to have another intestinal operation and later, a swollen blood vessel, the main one to my Aorta, rectified. Although I have had a healthy diet and not smoked or drunk alcohol in large amounts for over 35 years, the damage was done when I was young. That bears repeating - WHEN I WAS YOUNG!

That is what can happen, folks. It will catch up to all of those who drink far too much and smoke anything, whether nicotine or "Herbal". I am not preaching here, just stating facts. If you really want to blow your health and damage your body beyond repair, carry on getting off your face and/or smoking until your lungs turn black.

EDIT: i gave up ALL alcohol several months ago. Don't miss it, wish I had never touched it. Or ciggies.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

What isn't true? That alcoholics are physically dependent?

I think perhaps emsy was making the point that there are many functioning alcoholics the ones who work all day with no physical symptoms but come home and can't get through the night without alcohol.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

That doesn't really have anything to do with the point I was making though, which was a counter to 'bitemebankers' daft assertions about people who drink once a week or less being addicts.

Do you have a link to this as I know many 60 odd yr olds who have been smoking not abusing cannabis for most of their adult lives and not one of them has mental health issues in fact most of them are successful professionals, as are many of my 30 odd 40yr old friends.
I would love to see the stats on lung damage from the smoking of pure cannabis versus the liver and other health problems brought about from drinking alcohol.

I know plenty of people who have been drinking alcohol for most of their adult lives who are fine too. There are extremes within users of both cannabis and alcohol. I've seen both and neither is pretty.

I'm not opposed to the legalisation of cannabis, particularly, but I think it bears remembering that the effects of its use will be minimised by the fact that it is currently illegal. Alcohol is not only legal, it is socially acceptable. Once/if cannabis gets to the same stage, you might find that the way it is used and the problems it causes differ. I say might because quite clearly I have no way of knowing what would happen; I'm certainly not saying it would be as bad as/worse than alcohol, I'm not saying it wouldn't, we won't know unless it happens.

Judging by your recent posting history, you are quite obviously "stalking" and abusing Marisco on a regular basis.
It would be best if you go:(

Of course there will always be people who abuse cannabis I would never deny that but compare that abuser of cannabis with an abuser of alcohol does he now have severe liver problems, does he shake constantly until he has had his first joint, is he aggresive, does he wet the bed and vomit?
I bet not, I too would not like to live with an abuser of anything but given the choice between the two I would go for the stoner everytime.

Nope, he/she will just waste their life sitting around smoking, putting dope before thier career, family, friends, playing russian roulette with their mental health.

Cannabis abusers are no better than alcoholics, if you really believe that you are sadly deluding yourself.

I suggest that everybody who thinks sjc3's latest post is abusive to another poster they should report it - not as spam.
