I'd be interested to read where you got that from. Do you have a link?

It's called real life. Oh, and the odd addiction counsellor that I know personally. People who drink "socially" often kid themselves that they don't have a drink problem because they "only drink at weekends" or "only drink when out with friends". A lot of alcohol addicts "function" by abstaining during the week and binging heavily at weekends.

If you are truly addicted to alcohol its a physical dependency. You can't go without drinking for days without having unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.

Its ridiculous and trivialises real, devastating, alcoholism to pretend that everybody who ever drinks is an addict.

Maybe if you'd actually lived with someone who liked smoking cannabis so much that it was much like living with jekel an hyde you would feel differently.

Maybe if you'd actually lived with someone who only wanted to stay in bed all day and go out all night you'd feel differently.

Believe me living with an alcoholic is just as hard to deal with too. Thats why i choose not to live with anyone with either of these addictions.

Of course there will always be people who abuse cannabis I would never deny that but compare that abuser of cannabis with an abuser of alcohol does he now have severe liver problems, does he shake constantly until he has had his first joint, is he aggresive, does he wet the bed and vomit?
I bet not, I too would not like to live with an abuser of anything but given the choice between the two I would go for the stoner everytime.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Why would there ever be a choice to make? That's not how the world works.

There's mounting evidence that excessive cannabis use can lead to serious mental health issues, as well as the obvious lung damage.

Its not good to abuse either substance to the point where it destroys your health and takes over your life. Thankfully, the vast majority of people don't.

Do you have a link to this as I know many 60 odd yr olds who have been smoking not abusing cannabis for most of their adult lives and not one of them has mental health issues in fact most of them are successful professionals, as are many of my 30 odd 40yr old friends.
I would love to see the stats on lung damage from the smoking of pure cannabis versus the liver and other health problems brought about from drinking alcohol.

I have lost two friends related to their cannabis use. One a very severe reaction, one through mental illness believed to be related with their use of cannabis.

Fwiw, I am not opposed to it, or alcohol, being legal, I am opposed to the myth it's harmless.

I never saw my parents drunk when I was a child, although that's not to say they never had the odd drink when we all went out for a meal with friends or such like. I don't drink around my children either, I may be paranoid but I like either myself or DH to be capable of driving should something happen to one of the kids.

Alcohol abuse is a massive problem in this country, maybe because I'm at the thick end of it in work I realise this more than most, but it really depresses me that nobody seems to have woken up to that fact. That's not to say I don't see my fair share of people who have permanently fried their brains by using so much Cannabis, and Meow has become a huge problem locally, but by far and away the vast majority of my workload comes from the after effects of a night on the booze.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
