There is some lifting but I think I can manage the lifting in the job I have gone for.
I am not sure why you should be cross:beer:0 -

I am very good with IT, degree in a strong Arts subject which is heavly linked to knowledge and ideas, I am very good at learning new skills and I would like a job that is fairly hands on, so library, books, archives, records all seem areas I might be suited to.
I could be a sales man or a business sort of person if I pushed myself at it but it would not be my first choice.
I think library work is what I want to do especially towards historical books if possible.
You may well be "good" at all these things but you sure as hell are carp at listening.0 -

Strange that I do listen and i know I should widen my sectors of search. I am being less fussy about jobs. I am waiting as best I can to hear about this job rather than diving in phoning them up.:beer:0 -
What have I not listened to then?:beer:0

I think I get now why you think I don't listen. I take too much of a long term view and so I just find problem after problem about why I can not do this or that. I look for problems like I don't have a Masters in the correct subject instead of thinking if I get a job I can prove myself that I can get promoted. I stick in one sector when it makes it so much harder for me to get a job.I am trying not to do those things from now on.:beer:0

I'm with you on this.
I have been involved in co interviewing on a few occasions and we have never asked for this. Also no job interview I've ever been to has asked for either of these - be a waste of time on berth certificate anyway as it isn't in English so what exactly would they do with itts_aly2000 wrote: »I agree with SP on identity theft. If it happens then no one's going to help you. It's your own lookout. I've had companies wanting to photocopy credit cards before to prove I'm over 18...... Erm, I'm like VERY over-18 and there is no way in hell that you're photocopying my credit card!!
There are also guidelines on copying what are essentially Crown documents. Any old employer isn't meant to do it, they misinterpret the Crown guidelines. Agencies are particularly keen to copy documents when they have no legal right to do so, only the employers are entitled to check them.
I could start an agency or starting interviewing people tomorrow. Photocopying passports and driving licences does sound very very dodgy..........
By all means let them see the documents Phil, but do not let them out of your sight. I would not criticise you for it, but then again, I'm sane.Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -

If you want advice on a career in librarianship I hope you've checked the CILIP website.
Ultimately you will need a Masters. At the moment you could get a job as a library assistant but you wouldn't progress further than that. I'm afraid it isn't possible to climb the ladder without a postgrad qualification. There are hordes of fully qualified librarians out there and you have to compete with them! The good news is that you can study for the MA part time, lots of people do that and if you're really lucky your employer will sponsor you.0
