With the £14 off though even over 25 if in a 2 bed you are back to £57.
You could be in your late 50's just made redundant, paid into the system all your life
I find it really sad that people are so bitter that they feel this is right, truly nasty.
No money to pay for house contents insurance, any small debts they may have nothing.
Hey let's just let them rot and if they end up homeless why should I care, I'm alright Jack.
Shame on those who think like that. The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -

£53 +1.5%=£79.50
when you are so poor and desperate, £7.80 do make a big difference to people's life.
I know that as I had been there before, to survive, I didn't turn on the heating during the whole year (even heavy snow outside) to keep cost as low as possible (but still have to pay the daily standard rate, I just check with my gas company, daily rate is now nearly 50p so not turn on heating still cost me a lot)
Also I walked everywhere no matter the weather.
results:Sometimes try to squeeze £1 to buy plastic for foot blaster was a struggle... so I was always depress and lots of other health issues as suffering from the house damp with mould. I am still suffering today. I am physical 10 years older than my age (my looks too) due to all the above.
I could barely could put food on the table. The hardest bits are : all the utility bills ate up the 'income', just have the little bits left for my food and a little bit of essentials.
I bought the cheapest food I could...
walk round the supermarket and quietly wait for the staffs put on the special price labels. A lot of time, I waste hours in there because there is ' a cat and mouse game' with those supermarket staffs, when they see 'us' - lots of people in my same situation' waiting near the 'nearly out of date' sales area. The staffs stopped and disappeared. So I ended up walking circle again and again. Hope and more hoping.
about the smokescreen you mentioned, I am sorry I do not agree.
people just want to show how desperate they are. I think you look the wrong way from this issue.
anyway there is voice better then no voice no matter it's merit or not.
.
Thanks for correcting my maths; you're right, the difference is important.
I've done my share of shadowing the reducing stff round the supermarket - I was fortunate that I enjoyed it.0 -

There is some good advice on this site, I joined to ask a question on the mortgage board about my sister and her mortgage, which I wanted to help her out with, I noticed the benefits, board and took a look, as my only experience of the system was In 1979 when I signed on the dole for two weeks, I since have had no dealings with the system, since 79 I have worked and been very well paid as a Session/ Backing musician
My first thought's were how supportive people were but sadly as I read through the posts there appeared to be individuals who take great pleasure in putting the boot in on people down on their luck, I have been very blessed in my life and feel desperately sorry for some of you guys struggling to make ends meet, take the good advice and don't let spiteful people get you down. I really believe in Karma what goes round comes round.0 -
It was care leavers or those chucked out the house by their parents when they no longer get money for them I was thinking of. They are often presented as homeless and get awarded 2 bedroom flats in this area. Remember we have 2 bedroom properties in abundance
£10/week for utilities? Gas, electricity, water? My lass was at least £20/week in her old flat. But we did have 2 extremely cold winters (-17C) and it wasn't the best insulated of flats. And that was just for Gas and Electricity, not counting her phone bills or water bill.
Can you believe there are no cafes in this town with wifi? You have no go into the next town which costs around £3/day in bus fares :rotfl: Then the price of a cuppa, £2 (ish), think it might be cheaper to have your own connection
Trygetback. You must have went to a different school from me
Re the utilities. I did make it clear that I was talking about a half or third share of utilities in a flat/house share.
I've said several times that unemployed (people with disabilities are in a different situation) people under 25 just can't afford to live independently on their own in 2 bed flats; allocating them this accommodation really isn't doing them any favours. They'd be far better off sharing in the private sector which would also give them the flexibility to move for work, rather than pinning them down in areas of high unemployment, scared to move because of losing their "security".0 -
Absolutely guilds I've had some good advice too on a query I had on selling and the people on the Old Style Money saving board are absolutely lovely.
It's true about the Karma.
Don't let the !!!!!!s grind you down
It's pretty obvious to most who the long term trolls are anyway, best ignored but sometimes it's unavoidable!

The people you think are unsympathetic are usually offering helpful advice to people in a difficult situation, often from their own experience. Some of us think that there are better ways of helping people than giving them more money so that living on benefits becomes a comfortable lifestyle for a long period.
We have to change this way of thinking.

People are not trolls, just because they disagree with your viewpoint.0 -
Why wouldn't they move into shared accommodation? My nephew is on an apprenticeship and cannot afford to live alone. If he lost his position then the LHA rate pays £65 a week, his rent is £62 and includes gas, water, electricity and broadband. He would therefore have his full £56.60 a week, incidentally more than now, to live off.
Other than disabilities which I understand pay more, what am I missing here. Are student accommodation only available in Durham?Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

At least this thread has caused discussion and the petition itself and that surely has to be a good thing because if we wan't to break down social barriers in this county then that can only be achieved by discussing our differences and leaning to get along and help each other out, whether old are young, rich are poor, and that is something that can't be achieved by government legislation.2013 Wins Kaspersky Internet security 2013, Acer iconia Tablet, Kindle fire HD0 -

But they do what their social workers advise them to do. It's social workers and homeless units who give them these properties in the first place. Not them who ask for them. Probably if there were more one bedroom properties in this area then they would be allocated them. So you wouldn't have any problems with that, just with 2 bedroom allocations, even though there aren't any 1 bedrooms....4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
