I have decided that I need to try and identify the ingredients that can cause the nasty red, sore patches on my face. I can often use the same products on neck, hands and have no reaction, I think a couple of horrific reactions in the past have left my face supersensitive:(

I think I need the name of the producst and a list of all the ingredients so I can look for common ingredients, now I have at last put Excel on my new laptop can anyone suggest how I might do this? (not really used spreads very much). Ingredients by quantity, i.e. as they apear on the list or alphabetical order, to make comparison easier?

1 IN Sarah Chapman Overnight Hand and Nail Treatment.
1 necessity - BS Nude Lip Liner (thank you for the rec. Roguey?)

I did a comparison like this a while back for shampoos and shower gels. The easiest way to do it was to write out all ingredients as they appeared on the back of the bottle, and then sort them into alphabetical order (you can do this manually or excel has a functions, you can google how to use that). I left gaps between letters of the alphabet so that e.g. all the E's started on the same row. The common ingredient I found was sulfates, but there were a few more that did appear in more than one bottle.

It sounds like you maybe have a form of dermatitis, which I was told can flare up if you even look at the ingredient again after the first reaction!

Should say maddiemay I put them in adjacent columns and sorted. It can be difficult because the same ingredient can sometimes have different names. I know lush publish ingredients online, and you can copy this and do text to columns.

Minicooper - thanks for the above, really helpful.:A

Good morning ladies, sunny and chilly here this morning, yesterday I was thinking about SPF in moisturiser, handcreams etc and low and behold Caroling Hirons (who I know several others here follow) has done a fact sheet on sun protection, bit of an eye opener for me at least in respect of the different damage caused by UVA and UVB and how we might be missing out on what is really needed.

May I humbly suggest that you have a read at beauty mouth .com.

A while back a dermatologist, very attractive lady with Greek type name, did a TV programme on the subject, one of the things that amazed a lot of people was the amount of skin damage caused by being sat in the sun whilst in the car, i.e. the side of the face and the hand nearest to the outside of the car showed so much ageing, she used some professional drivers as well as commuting and leisure drivers to illustrate the point.

Lecture for today over, have a great one:D

Indeed - my best friend's Dad, who has been a bus driver most of his life, found out a while back that he had skin cancer on his right arm caused by years of sitting at the wheel with no protection for his skin. Very scary when you think about it.

I really need to start concentrating on SPF in moisturisers, I'm a redhead so it's something I really should be aware of more. That's for the heads-up, will go take a look. :)

Predicted a grotty weekend here, and I wanted to get some gardening done :(

Have a good weekend everyone, get those toiletries used up! :D

Maddie - I had just read the Caroline Hirons post on SPF, for years I have thought the same as her about spf15 in makeup or moisturiser only lasting half the day, by the time the sun is at it's worst the protection is gone. My DH drives all day and I have only just got him into wearing SPF. Avon do SPF50 cream especially for the face and its only £3.50 so I am getting a couple of tubes for him and me and I hope it will be less greasy (I think they do a matte version) as it is for the face.

    Have a uu

No7 Age defence cleansing balm - WBA although I am not sure they still do this since they changed their range, it is very soothing on the skin and does a good first cleanse to get the majority of my makeup off. I doubt it does anything anti-ageing though as it is on and off so quickly. I have replaced it with another of the same from the stash.

    Morning!

Some things to report from me....

Dermatonics Heel Balm 75ml x 2 - NBI as they were given to me on prescription for a foot problem
Femfresh Powder 200g - UU - This is an HG product for me as I'm allergic to talcum powder and this is the only talc free one apart from Johnson's extra dry baby powder, this is finer but Johnson's is cheaper....have at least one of each in the stash though so can decide which I prefer ;)
