The meanness of LIDL

I've spent 10s of thousand of pounds at Lidls over the last 20 years
I purchased an electric toothbrush from the for a £10 last year - with a 3 year guarantee. It developed a fault, and surprise surprise I did not keep the receipt. I keep for most things that need it - it's easy when u go to say PC world, or some other store for a single electric product, but when u buy something small like I did £9.99 along with your other shopping, it's easy to forget.
I contacted them, and they asked for a reciept (which I know buy law is not necessary). I said, they would probably that the model I had was newer than 3 years. They complaint was forwarded to their hit squad. They simply stonewalled me - no receipt - no deal.
I told them I'd spent at a rough estimate 20 - 40K over 20+ years and what did they think of that - same thing
Now I'm a pretty seasoned complainer but this was just a total shut out. I was never rude.
I told them it was a lousy tenner we were talking about and that I'd post my complaint on the net, which would well end up losing them more than a tenner's worth of business. I'd also more likely go to Aldi now! (not the biggest threat in the world but you know... I guess Aldi are just as bad)
They said they did not like my threatening manner!
That's it really. One toothbrush down
I don't expect gold service from Lidl, but I think they've got it wrong here as I will try to go elsewhere more often

Didn't think Lidl had been in the UK for over 20 years ?
Most businesses require a receipt for faulty goods, i stick mine away in a cupboard if i buy electrical stuff with my shopping. Good job it was only a tenner eh ?
Just Googled, they launched here in 1994.0 -
I'm smelling a wind up ... Bit of a coincidence after yesterday's Aldi thread!

Some lessons cannot be taught ...
Next time, especially with things with long guarantees, not only keep the receipt but also scan the it into your PC. Most receipts are thermally printed, which blur or fade over time.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Lidls have been in the UK about 25 years, I remember shopping in the Stevenage store in 1995 and they'd been around for several years before thatPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Taken from Wikipedia :
Since launching in the UK in 1994, Lidl has grown consistently and today has more than 580 UK stores.0 -

And I'll still shop there and I'll keep any receipts that are needed.
Why would Also be just as bad ? They have the same policy but doesn't make them bad, its within consumer law so they haven't done anything wrong.0 -

Completely agree. I take photos of all the important receipts and upload them to Evernote servers.0 -
1.it's Lidl. You went to Lidl not lidls.
2. This 'law' you say that means you don't have to have a receipt, did you read as far as the point where it said you do need proof of the purchase ie bank statement /Credit card statement?0 -
