Yeah it's very hard getting the right one.
My first one was easy BT as my exchange had just been enabled and I chose BT so there would be no problems with one company blaming the other.
As soon as the year was up I migrated to zen and been there ever since, I do keep an eye on what changing and who is good or bad.
If I was you I would pick one that is average in cost and average in performance, if you can get monthly contract you can't lose. But if you are traped into a year or more you really need to do the research well.
At the end of the day it's a gamble.

Take a look at the Zen lite option, I never knew they had that one untill the other day.Experience Zen's award-winning business service. Suitable for 1 PC working in a Home/Small Business environment, Zen 8000 Lite delivers a high quality, affordable broadband - now with download speeds of up to 8Mb.*
Zen 8000 Lite provides a monthly download usage allowance of 2GB, with the option to purchase extra GB at any time.
£17.99
Download usage allowance of 2GB would be my only concern, but I dont know what your useage will be and I guess if you are new to broadband you will not either.
One thing I can tell you is once you start using the net your usage will get higher and higher.
I have a 100Gig download limit (uploads are not counted with Zen) and some months I have used 60Gig but never ever used 100Gig.0
