Ridiculous Ryanair luggage charges

I know that Ryanair wants to discourage passengers from checking luggage in but still find this ridiculous. I wanted to book a return flight to Gothenburg for July. I looked at BA and Ryanair. The basic charge for Ryanair was £28 to go and £54 to return. I then clicked on luggage options. I don't like taking a case into the cabin due to size of case and liquid restrictions. They are now charging £50 each way for a case under 15 Kilos and £70 each way for one under 20 Kilos!

I opted out and booked a return with BA for £107

Ok i get it now, sorry must be tired.

So what your saying is ryanair are'nt that cheap if you factor in baggage.

But consider if i was going to gothenburg, which i wouldnt do unless i was getting a train to somewhere else and i didnt want to take a bag it would cost me half the price travelling with ryanair.

Another point are the ryanair airport and the ba airport equidistant from your home?

Wrong, it is £50 for a return flight. Given the generous hand luggage allowance, I have no problem with this.

And ba fly into an airport twice the distance (13 miles) to the centre of gothenburg compared to ryanairs choice of airport (5.8miles) so for fair/fare comparison you need to factor in added travel time and cost of transportation

This is an excellent point. People moan that Ryanair do not fly to/ from convenient airports, but for those of us away from London they are convenient. It takes me four hours to get to Heathrow - in that time I could be at EMA/ BHX and half way to my destination ;)

So, can we take it that the title of this thread:
    Ridiculous Ryanair luggage charges

    is ridiculous?

At least the OP didn't say she had been scammed, conned or ripped-off by Ryanair.

When you exaggerate or tell lies you ruin the point of your post.
85 million people this year will fly with Ryaniar,by the way, when is the next BA strike?
    Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!

That reminds me I must check-in online for my next £19 Ryanair flight, on a route BA don't fly. Aer Lingus do for £95.99 (without hold bags) and their arrival time is too late anyway. What's that phrase, oh yes 'no-brainer'.

Sorry I made a mistake re. Ryanair charging for luggage both ways but I was at first looking at the price of a single flight and checking for supplements to find the true price.

For me there is no big difference in the time/cost of getting to Stansted or Gatwick/Heathrow. Stansted is slightly quicker as long as the Stansted train service is running normally but I have been caught out before when it was suspended due to engineering work or a fault.

I don't find the Ryanair hand luggage allowance to be generous. Last time I used them, I had to go and buy a smaller case. Or have they changed their allowance recently? If you save on the fare and only take hand luggage, you then have to go and buy things like shampoo (and any other liquid products needed) when you get there. I simply felt that £50 or £70 for a case in the hold was a bit excessive even if it covers outward and return journeys.
At the other end in Gothenburg, my friend there has told me that there is a convenient bus shuttle which has several drop off points in the city centre.

Still 10kg and 55 x 40 x 20cm. I've only flown with them twice (and very recently), and I was amazed how much I could get in there...especially on the way back when you can roll your clothes up!

I'd imagine you would/might for a week or 2, but not for a weekend surely? And even if you had to, £50-70 buys a lot of "things like shampoo"!

You need to stop concentrating on the individual components, and look at the bottom line price. If it's cheaper than BA (or whoever), and meets your needs re time and airport(s) etc, then book it...otherwise use someone else.
