Apple software upgrade
Options
Seen today that apple have sent another upgrade to my phone for download.
I am still runing 5.1.1 (i think), the one before they axed google maps.
I use google maps quite a bit and wonder if there app runs as good as the original that they had with apple.
Does anyone use the app that google made for the maps after apple dropped them?
Is their any other updates in this or the last update that i should download it for?

The new Google maps standalone app is better than the old inbuilt one, with far more features.
It's a pity you only just noticed the update as the 2 or 3 previous updates you missed allowed the phone to be jail broken using an extremely simple method. The one that has just been released (6.1.3) has been patched to block the jailbreak.====0 -
As above the Google Maps app is brilliant and also a free download.
If you don't jailbreak then it is always important to keep the software up to date.0 -
Jailbreaking? I think not. I like having the assurance that my OS is protected, and the ongoing dance of relocking with each update.0

I agree - I jailbroke my phone once and I found it sluggish and didn't benefit me.
iOS being a closed system isn't such a bad thing for me. But each their own.0 -

Why?
Ain't broke = don't fix is (always) my motto! :rotfl:
Next you'll say that Windows 8 is a good idea!0 -

Ah, but as developers update their apps (using the latest OS) the phone may not work as well as it should.
Windows 8! Pah! Strict Mac user and proud
Although the Windows 8 phones are very nice... no?0 -

The jailbreak developers release patches for vulnerabilities long before Apple normally do it's a bit of a non issue.and the ongoing dance of relocking with each update.
There hasn't been an unlock incorporated into the jailbreak for years.
I also don't see where anyone even mentioned unlocking, it has nothing to do with the jailbreak.
To make it clear, the process of jailbreaking is just to allow extra customisation of the UI and to allow additional apps and functionality which Apple haven't or won't approve for the AppStore.====0 -
Just downloaded the app.
see what you mean about the extra features, seems a good app.
will now download the latest update from apple.0 -

Very funny indeed.
Do you have ANY idea what Jailbreak is? It's a software which uses SECURITY HOLES ind iOS to remove limitations installed by Apple to secure their income, not you.
According to almost any research, iOS is least secure mobile OS on the market.
Actually, if you jailbreak and then use it wisely (for example adding black list as hosts file) you not only can save battery life and your mobile data allowance by getting rid of all annoying ads, and also you can block known nasty servers.0 -

Your right but Apples software updates do close these hole off. Try updating older Android devices, unless you root it (and install a completely unknown OS form a security point of view) many vendors and network just cease Android upgrades as soon as the phone is superceeded.
Look at it another way, it may be protecting Apples revenue, but it's also protecting developers incomes, if they don't get paid for apps they write what impetus is there to write any more?0
