Is it worth me trying to claim. In February 2008 we were delayed coming home from gran canaria to newcastle. We flew with Jet2 and the reason for the delay was due to a fault with trying to refuel the plane. We were kept hanging on for hours until the pilot actually came up and addressed the passengers in the departure lounge and said for safety reasons he was not prepared to fly the plane so after hours of waiting we were put up in a hotel in gran canaria and flew home the next day. The thing is we have no receipts or anything to prove we were on the flight, and do not have the flight no. Ive tried on flight stats but have had no joy. All i know is the date we went out was mon 18th feb and returned mon 25th feb 2008. We definently fit he criteria for compensation but without any receipts or anything it looks hopeless.

try posting on the Jet2 thread - you will probably see there that they are not paying anyone out and you will need to initiate court proceedings once you know for sure that the delay was completely within the control of the airline

in reply to mckneff why now, well why not. Its only just came about to claim for delays, and as I lost a days pay as I could not make it to work, my husband had to draft someone in to run our business for another day we had to pay extra on the carpark at the other end shall I go on ........ never even got a sorry from jet2. I dare say any compensation they paid out would cover what we lost having to spend another night there.

'why not; is hardly an answer to 'why now'

  • Hi

I am in a similar position - I notice in the template that they want a booking reference number for the flight, i do not have this but know the dates and flight number etc - is that enough? Mt flight was delayed 7 hours on a european airline leaving barbados and landing in london, reason for delay was one of the crew was sick and they had no replacements (that is what we were told although how do i prove this also as flight stats app doesnt give any reason), i think myself and my partner could be in for a handsome payout if we can prove it. ..

If nobody has any proof and no one has any receipts, how is it all going to happen. It isn't.

You don't have a leg to stand on I;m afraid.

bungebutt, the booking ref may be against the transaction on a bank or credit card statement, if you can't locate that try a subject access request

and ask the airline for the details, it may cost you £10, but you probably have a case.

Thanks for that, in my case the flight was part of the package (a fly cruise) so the booking was made at thomas cook with p&o, i think i still have those deatils somewhere as i keep getting mail from p&o with customer numbers on it - is that enough or should i try and find the specific flight proof?
