Another vote for https://www.mytyres.co.uk here... Ultra reliable company and much better value than any outlet. I think some places have cottoned on though, as my local ATS stopped the deal of fitting customer's own tyres for £5 + vat a corner, as they muct be losing profit margins, they make by charging extortionate amounts for tyres through themselves.
Well, they can go to hell, because that decision means I now visit my local tyre fitter down the road, who fits & balances my wheels for a fiver cash a corner.Money saving:
Buy a Skoda. Laugh at the VWs who paid several grand more
Its a diesel. 50mpg - laugh at all the petrols
Its a tuned 260bhp diesel - laugh at them in the rearview mirror as they vanish

Ive been shopping round for tyres and was quoted anything between £30-£55 per tyre inc fitting and balancing.
I went for a local place that charged £40 p/tyre and it was only when he was half done when he said "would you like the tracking done?" Im not very good at this stuff so I asked how much and he replied £25!!! Never told me that when I was given a fully inclusive qoute!!!
Am I gonna get probs if i dont get the tracking done?? What is it?Bismillah0 -

It is setting the wheel(s) so that they are rolling in parallel when the car is travelling forwards. Can need checking from time to time. Best get advice before you change the old worn tyres.....0 -
With regard to the tracking, have heard of more than a couple of garages charging for wheel balancing and tracking when,
a) It may not have needed doing
b) charging for it but not actually doing the job!
A nice little earner for no work.0 -
I can't see how wheel balancing would NOT need doing, if you are having your tyres replaced. I know what you mean regarding tracking, though, boatman.0

My car takes a 205/60/15 H and the best deal I found for Mitchelin Energy tyres was from Costco £63.67 each inc VAT and fitting. Kwikfit wanted £100!!!!! for the same tyre.
Guess where I am going?I'd rather be fishing....0 -
to add further info, look at https://www.tyretest.com, for reviews on tyres, i have found this site very useful when buying tyres.
also the point re. 'branded' names, whilst i accept cheap tyres are a fgalse economy and not worth purchasing, some so called top makes have very poor ratings and still charge silly prices.0 -
Hi there, I have found some mitchelin tyres at Costco. The cheapest by far.
Thanks for the posts

I get Toyo Proxes T1-S in 205/40 R17 shape, as I run large wheels, so need lower profile tyres to compensate. I got my last set for £55 a corner delivered to me at work by 24 hour courier. This wasn't through mytyres though, but a local Somerset firm who are a Toyo specialist. Even though £55 is cheap rhe Toyo Proxes is a GOOD performance tyre with aggressive "V" tread pattern and excellent grip in dry, and rain dispersion in the wet. Also makes the car look the dogs dangles. Think I have a pic somewhere. Indeed I do....
And while I'm at it, no harm in another pic. And yes, it is a Skoda....Money saving:

Another vote here for mytyres.co.uk. A very different experience in tyre purchase. No scruffy oik calling you mate, and a great link to the customer review facility. Ended up with what looks like an excellent pair of tyres at 60% of what Q/F wanted for a pair of very average tyres. Funnily enough, on the 'phone, Q/F were very helpful on product selection!
Mytyres even accepted my Amex so suppose I could also factor in my cashback!!!!??I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0
