    Yo Fortyfoot,
i went into my local Kiwk-Fit and they had 25% off, on Continental tyres. dont know how long the offer will last.

I had a set of Dunlop types fitted during there 25% off dunlop offer and it worked out at £170 including wheel tracking and alignment.
which i found quite a reasonable price for my car.

    Give them a call on 0800 222 111 for a quote

They also have budget tyres costing around £50 for 4 depending on car/tyre size written on the rubber face of your tyre's.

The size would look like this : 195/50 R14, where R14 means the size of your type in inches, 195 is the depth of your tyres in mm, and 50 is the height of your tyres in mm.

    hope this helps!

Just Tyres have some good deals and they are quoted on their web site.

Costco are also good but you need to be a member.

If you cannot get tyres at least 25% cheaper than any deal that Kwik Fit are doing then you are really unlucky. There was a survey in the last couple of weeks in one of the national papers or motoring magazines that confirmed the national tyre retailers are basically a rip off and their boasts that they are the cheapest are just plain lies.

The general rule is phone Kwik Fit and/or National Tyres and get their price and then phone few of your local independent tyre specialists and you should find that they will do the same tyres at least 25% cheaper than Kwik Fit, National Tyres, etc claim that they can buy them for. And when you consider that (I think I am correct) National Tyres are owned by the same company that makes Continental Tyres it is a joke. The independents' are usually more professional and are not worried about meeting targets to also try and sell you a new exhaust, set of shocks, brakes shoes/pads, etc, etc.

My advice is do not go anywhere near Kwik Fit and their ilk unless you have deep pockets and a large wad of cash that you do not mind being parted from.

Dont know if this is true, but someone told me that Kwik Fit up their prices on Saturday as they are one of a few places open for tyres on that day!

What I do know to be true is that the offers they promote, mostly exclude some hidden charges such as fitting, balancing etc.

Fortyfoot, what size tyres are you looking to get?
  • i certainly agree with kwik fit, avoid at all costs, the people that work there are shall we say not the best.

national tyres on the other hand are far more professional and their staff are trained to be curteous. i recently brought a set of 185/65 14h avon zv3's from them for £84 the set including valve, balace, fitting disposal etc.

this was even chaeper than mytyres.co.uk. i am v. happy with the tyres too. look them up in yellow pages.

I'm sure you can't mean £84 for a set of 4, mr_accountant. That size of tyre would surely be more like £84 EACH?

a set, ie two. therefore £42 each.

ive just looked on their site, it appears they are still doing the offer, although if they have any left in stock i dont know.

there website prices exclude balance valve and fitting, so bear that in mind, personally i believe this is a must on tyres.

http://www.national.co.uk/promotions/promotions.html click on specials, then the box on the LHS

You have to phone around your local area. Prices can vary a lot.

Just bought a set of four Michelin for my Citroen from a local independent for considerably less than the price of a set of 'less good' (Avons) from National.

I think it is really worth paying a bit more and getting a 'branded' tyre too. The difference between a set 'Fuldia' and Michelin for my car was only the equivalent to a full tank of diesel. Only for the next 30,000 miles the Citroen will run quietly, use less fuel, grip and feel better. IMO it really is a false economy to put cheap tyres on a car.
