Judging from the threads where people post "look at this dangerous driving filmed on my dashcam", and then everyone points out that it was actually they themselves who were driving like a prat, the insurance companies should perhaps charge extra for the type of person who wants to fit one.

Doesn't look very conspicuous though and would probably be quite distracting with it being quite large.

Never seen any discount offered for a dash cam.

Its easy to edit video clips with basic software.

I uploaded a clip somewhere of me driving into a retail park. I changed the name of the stores in the retail park very easily.
Poorly done but it just shows the video may not be reliable.

Look on BBC I-Player for the Radio 4 consumer programme "You And Yours." They discussed dashcams last week and insurance discounts were talked about.

Double edged sword. In a situation which might otherwise go 50:50 for lack of evidence, a dashcam could just as easily show you at fault as it could show the other driver at fault. So the benefit might be less than you'd imagine.

In which case you could do a "Stockwell" and find the micro card in the camera was not working correctly that day.
