  • Hi,

We have just had the same thing, £1300 of WAP charges.

I have the Samsung S3 on the BT Business Mobile and have had the contract for nearly 2 years, I pay £35 a month and haven't had any issues for the 2 years, and suddenly this month we have a huge bill today for WAP charges

We haven't done anything different with our phone, how can this happen?

    Did you get any resolutions?

    Please advise

  • I am also having a problem with a new BT Windows phone for work. I was in Australia at the start of 2014. Phone was locked up in a safe, no-one on this planet had access to it. It was also out of battery and switched off. Got back to a bill - no charge for WAP connections as "included in bundle" but many WAP calls when I was in Australia. Called BT - couldn't understand why I was concerned as no cost to me! Unhappy with this, I kept the phone totally switched off, no battery and locked up in company cabinet right after this call. You've guessed it - next bill had WAP calls made - usually in early morning during this period. I was in hospital for one of the 8 hour sessions I apparently made! Called BT - same response, no charge why the worry. Luckily this person passed on the call. A nice gentleman at BT called back. He is going to check the IMEI number for usage but feels confident it will come back with my phone!! I then suggested if it did then I would ask the company solicitor to witness the phone with no battery, no charge and pay the sols to lock it up in his safe for a month until the next bill - then the non-usage would be witnessed by a professional person. Immediately, BT man said he would put an immediate block on the phone for internet access - wonder why : ) Am awaiting IMEI results - will keep you informed

Intriguing thread - haven't had this problem myself but keen to know what the investigation results in. Similar problem (with Vodafone) back in 2011:

Firstly, it's certainly seconds, not milliseconds.
Secondly, my understanding is that the word 'call' in 'WAP call' isn't a conventional phone call. It's just a technical term for mobile data connection. Generally all mobile phones do this in background unless the data is switched of. Without correct settings the amount of data consumed can be almost unlimited, but isn't directly proportional to the duration of the connection ('call'). The price is per Mb, not per minute.

What is the data allowance? Was it used in full before the charges started?
