go for the original stretch type
Saw the option so thought I'd check.
Thanks hartcjhart...you've been really helpful0 -

I have to laugh with these sorts of replies, otherwise I'd cry. Do you honestly think if I was 'flush' with cash right now, I'd be wasting my time on here trying to ascertain what has to be done. It is a presumtious comment; with a new born baby and all the other finacial stresses we all have, £90 is not 'spare cash' in my household right now; my new born baby makes sure of that.
I appreciate some may think its £90, what's the big deal. But before any other comments, £90 is a big deal to me right now. And I won't make any apologies for that
Good job its only £90 and not £900 of work needed, we would be here all day.
Ok lets help...
Jack up car and remove wheel, remove hub nut, remove bottom ball joint nut and split ball joint, push out drive shaft, fit stretch boot with proper tool or split boot, put back together. Have I missed anything?

So shocked that people waste their precious time commenting just to be rude. And thanks hartcjhart for actually bothering to read my posts, clearly in their entirety. I don't think it takes a genious to work out that I'm far from a mechanic, but clearly some people need that pointing out. If you ever have any medical enquiries, I hope I can be as much help as you have to me0

If you read page 1 of my thread, you will see I have referenced my friend doing the repair work. And he IS a professional.
I had come here for some advice until he can meet me to discuss. And I'm glad I did; many people have been extremely helpful0 -

It may be worth just replacing the axle, replacing the CV boot is labour intensive and doesn't garantee that you won't have problems later on by permanent damage to internals. A whole axle will be brand new and will be cheaper on labour. Axle cost something like £150, a cv boot cover, and bearings cost about £30 - but like I said already the cost may increase because it does take time to fit a new boot.
Not really labour intensive unless someone like you is doing the job! I can see you scracting your head coverd head to toe in cv grease thinking to your self " now that I have the shaft out of the hub, how to sepereate the joint from the shaft" that is of course you managed to get past the bottom ball joint.
Damage to the constant velocity joint (CV Joint) is nothing to worry about unless all the grease has escaped and left the joint dry0 -
