op, just get the gaiter(boot) replaced any wear on the cv joint would have been picked up by the mot man,
roughly an hours work and about 5/10 quid for the parts
Is there definately nothing hidden though, I mean, that the MOT man couldn't see unless removing things (which they obviously don't do).
Now someone has said about getting additional bits, its put it in my mind that I don't want to 'plaster' a problem thats going to produce other problems in the near future. Equally though I don't want to pay out uneccessarily
Think I may take your advice, and just get the gaiter replaced, and maybe double check with MOT man that I shouldn't get anything else replaced at same time (risky though I know)0 -

depends if they are a 'straight' garage, but I personally would not bother asking,as I said any excess wear on the cv joint would be apparent at the time of testing,
even if there is slight wear under normal circumstances it would be ok till next mot.
it is a slow degrade process with it getting noisier as it wears,I have never known one just breakIMOJACAR

Post the garage up !
how so? my 10 year vw golf passed mot with just advisories for tyres being close to legal limit. I guess you drive newer cars and think any car more than 4 years old is a ticking timebomb or somwething0 -
Oh sorry another question...
Does anyone know the difference between the stretch type boots and the split type boots?0 -

Here here! Such a wasteful mentality0 -
Just let the garage do it for £90 oh and you will not need tracking as should not disturb the track rod (oh no whats a track rod question coming next).
At my garage it would cost £66 all in fitted but they use stretch boots. Would be no garages if our mates mate did all the work and we would be limited to going to main stealers.Google gives you answers use it.........0 -

I have to laugh with these sorts of replies, otherwise I'd cry. Do you honestly think if I was 'flush' with cash right now, I'd be wasting my time on here trying to ascertain what has to be done. It is a presumtious comment; with a new born baby and all the other finacial stresses we all have, £90 is not 'spare cash' in my household right now; my new born baby makes sure of that.
I appreciate some may think its £90, what's the big deal. But before any other comments, £90 is a big deal to me right now. And I won't make any apologies for that0
