....Got a shock yesterday when I got (another) bill for repairs from my son's housing association in respect of the placement that broke down. Nearly £3000. Obviously son ahsn't got that sort of money, so I need to find it. No idea where to find that sort of money, so will talk to them about a payment plan. Difficult as I am self-employed and very part time, so cash flow is patchy. I am also concerned that the bill seems very high for what was done, so have asked for an assurance that competative quotes were obtained and the cheapest/most appropriate one used. I feel a bit as though I emerge from one thing with him, get time to draw one breath and then the next thing hits me! Feel terribly guilty at having booked and paid for holiday for May, not knowing this was coming up and the money would have made a big dent in this bill. I thought as he left htat placement last July that the bills were all in and paid...

It may be a good idea to check whether this was actually paid when your son left last year, and also if they have completed a financial assesment on him for the cost of the repairs if he has no income to speak of?

....I went to DS2's parents evening and managed to speak to the vice principal regarding the incident - apparently it's not "normal" practice to write out to parents after an incident to advise them of what happened (which I told them I felt in this case due to the nature of the incident is completely wrong). She did say that now the matter is being investigated by the Police all the parents/carers of the children that were witnesses should have been contacted by the school prior to the Police contacting us and investigations will be held into this. I'm really still not happy and have no answers as to how the Police got my details - I have a sneaky suspicion that the details were given to them by the school - but as they've made such a lousy mess of this they are not going to admit it. I'm going to see if I get any contact from the school today and will then be writing a letter and will be contacting the governors and possibly ofsted. DS2 had mixed reports from his teachers, he's not academic at all, and really struggles....

Why not contact your local councillor, and ask them to look into it for you?

Just about to toddle off to work for the last day until 9th April :)

Have been a busy bee this morning - washed up, tidied round, cleaned kitchen, made raspberry jam from the last of the allotment rasps in the freezer. Just got the gooseberries to jam now, have some pureed for crumbles and also still some blackberries tucked away.

Busy days ahead - off to Reading for a rugby match at the weekend, dentist for a filling, out for a couple of long walks with DH, then its the Cake & Bake show with my creation (am getting more nervous now), our 10 year anniversary (since we met :o) next weekend and then meeting some friends who are currently in several feet of snow on the Welsh borders.
  • Hi all

A day's holiday for me today and (typically) my lie-in has not materialised and I am awake at normal time...ho hum.

Am going to do my housework today, food shopping and then try to get more WI Origami paper cut out - what I had envisaged as a small task has ballooned into something very time consuming!

So glad you had a good night Halight and loving the chick pics. :)

Have a safe and warm day everyone. :)

    Morning :hello:

Not much to do today, I got most things done yesterday. Just one load of washing and that's it. Think I'll dig out my yoga dvd.

I'm hoping to finish my blanket today. Just 4900 stitches to go, plus the border :D When that's done, I'll make cushion pads - I've already made the covers. Probably would've been better to do those the other way round  :rotfl: Then I'm going to start another blanket, miss tru wants one. If you don't hear from me for a few days, send someone to rescue me. I'll be easy to find - I'll be tangled up underneath that huge pile of yarn in the corner.

    Morning all
I've been off the wagon for a bit - and it shows. So yeah am ready to jump back on if you'll have me.
I'm currently at my dad's in Holland. He's not been well and I thought we were going to sort out some "if I'm dead" stuff too but he's had a bit of a rally and doesn't seem too keen. Dad used to play folk music and there is going to be a gig at the house at the end of next month for about 100 people. We are off to talk to some local hoteliers about block booking. Failing that it will be tents in the garden and most of the musicians are in their 70s. Lol

OS wise am determined to get back to more thrifty ways. There is only me and 16 yo dd at home now and for some reason things have slid. I guess we thought we could afford to cut some slack. But alas.....

    Have good days everyone

    Morning all.

I'm annoyed, angry and everything rolled into one this morning.

Who in the right mind would quit a £16 an hour job to take on one that pays £6 an hour? Well thats what my husband says he will do if he gets the job that pays £6 an hour.

"How will you pay your £500 a month loan?" asks me when he revealed his plan.

    "Stuff it" was his answer.

Dont get me wrong, i could live on pennies if i had to but he clearly aint thinking straight.

    Jobs for today.....STUFF 'EM!

Anyone got a spare desert island i can escape to?

    Have a good day all,

  • Hello everybody. I haven't read through the thread yet as I am in "no mood". Last night OH went on the PC to do some work. And guess what - this morning he woke me up to tell me that the PC is not working. "I can't get it to work, I keep switching it off and on..." "It doesn't like that." "Oh, well it won't work"..... oh GREAT. I have had to fire up the very old PC downstairs and have asked if IT can ring me to re-install all my programmes to allow me to link in and get the typing. Yeah, Easter weekend when one of them is off and they don't start until 10 and I've already been told that they're really busy..... I doubt I will be getting any work now until next week. He's probably opened a pop up and then left it running..... and I've got a headache. So I think I might be doing nothing today apart from trying to calm down :rotfl:

So that's the work PC to the menders then over the weekend...... another bill.... :( I just hope it can be mended....

Apart from that cold but sunny here. Budgies chirping away and next door doing DIY at 8.30. Ah yes you can tell it's Easter with them.... :rotfl:
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

    Morning all,
Did a big shop y/day after DD collected DGDs, I stocked up with legs of lamb and jemmyed them into the freezer. Plans today was to batch bake but DD1 has just phoned to say she's coming over for the day with DGD1 and wants to go to some reclamation places near by.
I don't get to seem them much as DD1 is a Tutor at Uni in Gloucester and DGD1 is at uni in N/hampton so looking forward to seeing them.
DW and WM finished, cooker and fridge cleaned.

I've caught up on y/days thread, so many of you have F&F who have or still are suffering from Dementia, it's a cruel disease and so much more widespread than I thought.
SAVE-A-HOLIC, We had the solar panels installed Dec 2011 just 1 day before the tariff was reduced. It cost about 9k but on the first year we were paid £1,894 and had free elec. Considering summer was a wash out it's still a good return. It will pay for itself within 4 yrs. We know how much it's generating as we have a small solar meter next to the ordanary one and can see what is being generated. Y/day even though the WM was on the elec meter wheel was going backwards. It doesn't have to be sunny but we earn more when it is, even on cloudy days it produces power. Sorry for the long explanation.
PEN PIN, I read somewhere that the only thing that will suppress weedstotaly is newspaper as they still tend to break through the membrane.
DP1 So sorry to hear about your Gran. x
JULIE69, Congratulations to you and yours.
My mind has gone blank so I'll send ((hugs)) to all poorlies and those going through a hard time.

    Morning all,

Hello Steph :jnice to see you xx

Bright and sunny dad here, got 3 washes to do, one is in the wm and thew other 2 to follow, will hang them all on the line today, its been great for drying outside lately.

Little dog to the vets tonight, she is drinking excessive amounts of water and is always hungry, so going to get her checked, scared of diabetis or cushings, but we will see.

Going to see dad at lunchtime and will help him with his meal, and need to pop to the Dr for a scrip for dd's migraine stuff.

Something with chips for dinner, will go and check freezer in a while.

Have good days all and keep warm xx

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
