I think a king will be just fine. I had a double when my boyfriend (now husband) moved in and we found it too cramped. We got a king and it's really weird - kings are only 6" wider but it feels like so much more than that. Never feels squashed. If we go on holiday and have a double it feels teeny tiny now!

Coincedentally, we're the same heights and from the sounds of it similar weights to Avoriaz.

Love our Superking, storage under it so only need 2 wardrobes (these have drawers in and fit in the alcoves) so our room is also 'bed heavy' but heh it is a bed room.... My husband is 6'3 and lies at an angle after spending time in the US with a US sized King we needed to get the UK Superking to get the same space :)

Bedding from local Ponden Home without any problems :)
  • I would go for a Superking. I have a Kingsize and would appreciate the extra inches in the event my beloved is over six feet tall and then some!
Plus very generously sized bedding so there is plenty to share plus elecric blankies of course....

    The room is 3.1 m by 3.7

    Super is 2m by 1.8 m

so will fit but be very bed heavy.

It is called a BEDroom for a reason!

Depends on what's more important, space around the bed or a very good nights sleep.

Just remember that Superking will cost £1000 upwards for a decent frame and mattress. No point in buying cheap rubbish on a bed that size. Otherwise you'll just end up replacing it in 3 years.

As for sheets, you only need 2 bottom sheets,1 for wash and 1 on the bed. Same for duvets covers. The bigger department stores John Lewis, BHS etc... will have them.

    Sleep well.

Whatever size of bed you decide to go for spend go for a well built bed that will last you years. We previously had an Ikea bed which didn't last at all and it eventually collapsed when hubby rolled over in his sleep one night! I found a local place which built solid wood beds, we chose an oak frame in Kingsize and it was less than 600 quid (granted the mattress was about the same again but we could have spent more on that if we could have afforded it). It's fantastically well built, we waited 6 weeks for it but it really was worth it for a decent sleep with no fear of the bed collapsing. I'm quite happy with having a kingsized bed, we have plenty of room, one of my better purchases.
  • Looks like in this case best to avoid false economies.

We have a Super king bed What a pain to get any bedding AND cost:money:

If you can wait, department store sales often have massive reductions on bedding, including super king. We got a really good quality duvet reduced from £130 to £30 in Debenhams a couple of years ago. I don't think we've paid any more than 25% of the original price for any piece of bedding - just with super king they have less stock and choice to start with so you might have to wait longer to get what you want.

We have a kingsize that came with us when we moved but I would love to have an excuse to go up to a superking. As it is I have a superking duvet on the bed.

Our bed is a pine base from The Big Table Bed Company in London and we are currently on our third mattress. It must be 20 years old (the bed frame, not the mattress). I hate divans.
