Zip stuck!

    Hello everyone :hello:

As the title suggests, I have a problem with a stuck zip. It's on a dress which I HAVE to wear next Monday. The problem is that it's a stretchy type material (not very stretchy but enough so I can move when it's on - v tight and slinky!) but there's a band just underneath the bust that isn't stretchy. The sides meet ok but the zip just won't go past the band!

When the dress is off it's still a bit tricky to get the zip past the band, but it will go up. Is there any way of getting me into the dress?! I've got a black tie do on Monday and cannot afford a new dress.

Also, the zip is on the side so it's difficult for me to do up anyway, but Mum tried helping getting me in too and same problem. I'm really hoping there's a magical solution or I'll have to stop eating!

Any help would be appreciated :o

This may seem a strange solution but you could try running the lead of a pencil over the teeth of the zip that are sticking. I have used this in the past and it has worked.

Hope you manage to get it fixed and have a great time at the "do".

Sorry that didn't help sali. I'm not much of a dressmaker (I was so bad at school that I was sent into the store cupboard to sort buttons and threads while everyone else made cushions, etc. :rotfl: ) Hopefully someone else will have solution for you.

Haha thanks annie. At this stage I'm just hoping noone will notice if the zip is halfway down...

Never tried it myself, but I believe candle wax can also be used.

Hmm... I don't have a candle but my flatmate does and she's back tomorrow. Thankyou, I'll try that one then. Maybe she can help wrestle me into the dress too...

    Hi sali_mali,

There are more remedies on these older threads:

    Whats wrong with my Zip?

Zip very stiff - how do I sort this ?

    Zip on trousers sticking

I hope you get it sorted out.
