Thanks to internet banking, direct debits are from the stoneage.
Not worked out too well for the op though has it ;) With IB you have to a) remember to pay it and b) pay it on time. With a DD you simply have to remember to have money in your bank account.

Thanks to internet banking DDs are a good backup should you forget to make a payment via IB, and are much more easily manageable than they used to be.

And if you forget, you can get double charges....

Is there a way to find out when my bill is produced aside from using the 26th as my guide
Can you not download a copy of the statement from the online account?

Setting up a DD for the minimum amount would have avoided this.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Thing is though if you don't have money in the bank to cover the DD you won't have money in there to pay the card manually via internet banking either, will you?

End of the day if anyone runs their main current account with such a low balance they don't always have sufficient funds / sufficient remaining overdraft to cover the minimum payment on their credit card there's something seriously wrong - and they probably shouldn't have said credit card.

Still need DD :D ... They're the easiest way to pay on time ...

And reference the topic, you most likely did pay too early ... My credit card bills come out through DD on the 20th of the month, but I pay a couple of hundred into them at the beginning of the month (well over the min payment), but the DD still comes out for the min payment.

Just give you're credit card company a call, as twice they have charged me for late fees (When I didn't have the DD set up) and one for a 'Cash-Like Transaction' (When I used a credit card to make a bet online), and both times they quickly refunded me the cash :D

True, but my point was that if you don't have enough money you can choose not to pay manually. You will only get the charges on the CC. But if a DD is in the pipeline, you'll get charged on both accounts.

I disagree. If a direct debit was set up for the minimum amount then the issue in the OP wouldn't have happened would it....

Internet banking is good for managing the account and making additional payments, direct debits are a good safety net.

Disagree. Direct debits stop me from forgetting a payment and getting a £12 late payment fee. They also pay my other bills automatically. Having to remember to login every month to pay a variable amount to each of my bills would be a complete nightmare.

I even got £50 from LTSB when I said I was moving my direct debits to another bank to get cash back on them.
