I've been using the test socket for the last 2+ years without any problems, except from a filter going.
With your connection does this happen in the same room?
Have you thought about using Eithernet Adapter plugs?
Where you connect a cable into your router at the back into a special plug which intern goes into your power supply.
Then you have another plug connected to the mains located near you with a cable to your computer.

This although not wireless, would help any connection issues.
The alternative is looking for a better router, although if you have thick walls or have a large house, 3 story houses are common for connection issues.

I love the people who whinge about being asked to use the test socket (it's 2 screws for God's sake, and there's no real voltage behind it... are you lazy or just daft?) or whinge when asked to plug their router into the main Master socket rather than their 30 year old extension.
Yes, you have to do it. Yes, if we come out and it's your dodgy wiring that's caused it, you WILL be charged. Get off your backside and check your internal wiring as we ask, and you won't be charged!
Hardly rocket science. I wonder how some people manage to function on a daily basis if they can't deal with a couple of very, very simple checks.0 -
It's not just me then, I started having problems with AOL about a couple of weeks ago. They said the problem was with either my BT line or the modem router. Phoned BT and they said my line was fine - excellent customer service from them as usual. Changed the modem router and still having connection issues.0

If talk talk is like AOL, you can request your Mac via an online form on their website.
Better than trying to get it out of customer 'services' on the phone.0 -
I switched to Plusnet when FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) became available here in my Lincs. village, where I was getting download speeds of 0.5 to 2 Mbps. Initially that went up to between 8 and 9.5 Mbps, but has now dropped to around 6 Mbps. I have made several complaints about this, using the "Members Centre" on their website and "Help & Support". After going through all their tortuous tests more than once, I had enough and informed them that I had done all that and got the simple replies that 6 was all my line would take. Really, said I, so how come I once had at least 8 Mbps, often more, when I started? They are "Testing my Line" and will " .. get back to me..."
As I paid upfront, with a healthy discount, for a year's line rental and other stuff, if I broke my contract I don't believe it will cost me much, if anything, so I told them that too. I await developments.
The Customer Service is good, in that phone calls send you to an English voice and the Tech Support seems knowledgeable, but I find that the website is best for initial complaints, then they text back to me with any results, which are repeated on the original website question.
I used a Table in Open Office to record the daily speedtests that I make, which demonstrates the fall in speeds. Incidentally, Plusnet now have their own Speedtest setup, which carries the amusing message that it is faulty and may give deceptive readings. I use https://www.speedtest.net. I copy the image, save it as a jpeg in "Paint" and file it to my Table.I think this job really needs

Some people have no technical knowledge whatsoever, does not mean that they cannot function, just means that they keep people like you in a job. The OP's area of expertise would probably leave you floundering. We are all different. Why slag people off? Does not help, I thought this forum was for people to help each other.I think this job really needs
