Please can someone help, I am at my wits end with AOL/TALK TALK - they offer dreadful customer service and technical support.
It all started on approx 6th March when I contacted them via email to state we had noticed the broadband signal dropping a few times a day. They replied back with a standard email asking me to check this and that!!!
I then took a huge gulp of air and telephoned a few days later when I was really cheesed off as couldnt get on and do what I needed to do on the computer due to lack of signal.
Since that call there have been numerous other calls, a new router, more calls, more settings changed and still no constant signal.
Also in the process, my blackberry playbook tablet has lost everything - just a blank screen, my laptop will not connect and neither will one of my daughers laptop and hey guess what - Talk Talk are suggesting it is our devices that are faulty!!!
I am so cheesed off - I need my internet and I think it will be quicker to change providers rather than endure more technical calls...
My question:
Can anyone suggest another provider - (no cable in our area unfortunately) with good customer services and a quick set up!
Sorry for all of this rambling and if there is a TT rep/advisor lurking out there who would like to take resposibility for our problems with them it would be great to hear from you.

Unfortunately Im with talk talk as well, dropping connection also, all I got advised to do was check my socket by unscrewing it with a screwdriver (!!!!!!) and that they would send me an engineer round and Id be charged 50 quid on my next bill, I told them to !!!!!! off. Ive been with them about 3 years now, never really had many problems, but I have practically nil wifi either and it wasnt a problem before, but since she reset something at her end today I have had wifi. Sorry you are having troubles. All Id say is, having been with BT I never had a problem with the service but its not cheap.
Uswitch the website will give a list of internet providers in your area. The only reason im with talk talk is because Im skint, no other reason.0 -
weve had the same problem for 10 days now. it seems talktalk have installed a new server and are updating the system, hence why the downturn in internet speed available at times. im stuck for 16 months as im in a contract with the tv package.

All providers are better than Talktalk. Its what comes of offshoring your customer service and what I loosely call "technical support" to the cheapest provider. "Please replace your cordless phone with a corded phone/reboot your router/face due north/stand on one leg" is about the limit of their skills.
Despite having broadband with them for years, when it suddenly went off, they claimed I hadnt got broadband. And this was a year after they paid me £500 in compo for disconnecting me in error.
Useless. Im now with Plusnet.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Thank you for your replies...
I have now signed up with Plusnet (via Quidco of course :rotfl:), good deal, but what clinched it was a UK based (sheffield) customer service/Technical support.
Have just tried ringing TT to let them know we are cancelling and after checking on their website it is open 8 - midnight..NNOOO it isnt it closed at 8!!! Bloody Dim Wits!!
You know tho' we have been with AOL since the year 2000 and I feel quite sad that we have been lit down like this...
Now to try to fix my blackberry!!!keep saving :wave:0 -

Thanks for this piece of info. I am also having the same intermittent problem although it does come back if I power down for about 10 seconds or so.
I'm not going to bother contacting them as I've got my house up for sale so will be leaving them when I move.0 -

This is a standard user test suggested by all competent ISP's. You don't unscrew the socket, you unscrew the master socket faceplate and test using ethernet from the BT test socket behind it. This disconnects all your extension wiring and sockets to eliminate any fault there, since this wiring is yours, and nothing to do with your provider. So telling them to f. off wasn't really helping you.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

As an addendum to Macmans comments, if you did not request a MAC from Talk Talk you may be stuck with a £30 ish disconnection charge. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
TT are just an awful, awful company.0

I've been using the test socket for the last 2+ years without any problems, except from a filter going.
With your connection does this happen in the same room?
Have you thought about using Eithernet Adapter plugs?
Where you connect a cable into your router at the back into a special plug which intern goes into your power supply.
Then you have another plug connected to the mains located near you with a cable to your computer.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Solwise-85Mbps-Homeplug-Adapter-Twin/dp/B002XL6IUU/ref=pd_sim_computers_6
This although not wireless, would help any connection issues.
The alternative is looking for a better router, although if you have thick walls or have a large house, 3 story houses are common for connection issues.0
