new User Paid by Paypal (protective measures needed?)

Options
hi, i have just sold a phone on eBay the highest bidder is a new user with no feedback and has had his account for 4 days.

he paid straight away by paypal (no charge ;) ) and is obviously unconfirmed, i have buyer protection upto £500 but wondered if there are any precautions i need to take?
i know he has already paid but my father sold a dvd/vdr combo (his first sale) and the buyer paid by paypal, he sent the item of then a few days later the payment was removed, and paypal just said the CC company pulled it.
so he lost the player and the cash, he contacted the buyer by e-mail and post and the person practically laughed in his face.

so i am a bit wary although i have payment protection. can i do much else to ensure i am not going to get stung?

    NO you don't!

under NO circumstances sell high value items to newbie users, ESPECIALLY with unconfirmed addresses/addresses that dont match the paypal address

you're the perfect 'scam' target, paypal wants you to believe you're covered,

go back, read the small print in the TOC, and you'll find that there's a VERY slim chance of you being covered.

I am verified (209) but do not have a confirmed address. Most UK users do not have a confirmed address the CC companies work in a different way in the UK.

I would just contact the seller make sure you are happy with them and send the item out. How else are you going to get paid? Cheques can be bounced months later and if you are going to trade on EBay you there is a bit of risk. However 99% of folk are straight.

So again if you are not happy contact the buyer to reassure yourself. But you have struck a bargain made your terms clear and he has followed them, you can't really move the goal posts after the event?

Out of interest how many people on here have confirmed addresses?

i have only been asked to send the item to one address, and this is the address that paypal have given me (which is the same address as the one he has on eBay)

Mine has been confirmed for quite a while, not that I would set any store by that.

    read the TOC for sellers
it seems to have been re-worded recently and does admittedly seem much more reasonable,

however, I suspect that if a non-confirmed address is used it'll be difficult to claim. also note that you're not covered as UK seller to a USA buyer! (one of THE only reasons to use paypal)

PAYPAL is more insecure than simply sending cash in the post recorded delivery!

your question of 'how many uk users have confirmed addresses' has hit the nail on the head exactly, and why so many users are being skanked as a result of fraudulant PAYPAL transactions

i have e-mailed paypal told them the cicumstances, then said i don't want to get ripped off, shall i refund the payment and ask the buyer to pay by cash or P.O?

which puts the ball firmly in their court. what are they going to say 'yeah it's not safe for your transaction on paypal? (i doubt it)

i got a reply from papyal which obviously didn't want to commit either way and said if you want to cancel the transaction it's up to you.

so i did and offered the buyer the choice of paying by Cash or P.O.

then this morning he has e-mailed me to say

'I have just went through a verification process with
paypal not sure if that helps?'

apart from the obvious grammatical error is this possible?
    and how can i check?

Oh come on folks, this is a bit OTT. Ever crossed your mind that by some possible miracle the buyer could actually be GENUINE!?!

Ok, so loads of people have been ripped off by Paypal...but hey there's an awful lot that actually hasn't too!
